Founded in November 2016, we are the only student housing co-operative in Glasgow working to provide Registered number: 4374.
We believe that a housing co-op is an effective way to combat increasing rent prices, and provide a democratically controlled living environment. Collectively, members of a co-op take on the role of landlord and have a direct say in their living conditions. There are many different kinds of co-ops: housing, food, consumer, worker-owned… Generally, all co-operatives follow the Rochdale Principles:

DIY Skills are invaluable at Glasgow Student Housing Co-operative. While our flat was already in beautiful condition when we moved in, no 130-year old Glasgow Tenement comes without a few bits of maintenance needing done. Today, member Emil’s had out her famous ‘box of tricks’ and been hanging up coatracks, and filling cracks in the plaster in the walk-in cupboard. After a light sanding and a lick of paint, the repair will be invisible.

Last Thursday we attended the Worker Co-ops Scotland Gathering, where we took part in some very interesting discussions around the cooperative movement in Scotland. We also got the chance to meet and network with members of other co-ops, which was lots of fun. Thanks for having us!
