🌞 Heatwave Alert: Keeping Babies Safe in Hot Weather 🌞
With temperatures high this week, it's more important than ever to help keep babies cool and safe.
🚨 Please don't cover prams, pushchairs or car seats with blankets, muslins or other covers. 🚨
Although it might seem like a good way to provide shade, covering a buggy can dramatically increase the temperature inside, creating a risk of overheating, dehydration and increasing the risk of SIDS.
👶 Why is this dangerous? Covering a pram restricts airflow and traps heat. Even on a mild day, temperatures inside a covered buggy can rise quickly. During a heatwave, this can become dangerous in a very short space of time.
✅ Safer alternatives include:
• Using a parasol or sunshade designed for prams
• Dressing baby in loose, lightweight clothing
• Keeping babies out of direct sunlight where possible
• Offering regular feeds to help prevent dehydration
• Checking baby's temperature regularly
🌡️ Remember: If you're feeling hot, your baby is likely feeling even hotter.
Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the sunshine responsibly. 💛
