Founded in 1845, The Glasgow Academy is the oldest, continuously independent school in Glasgow, Scotland. The main campus is located in the Kelvinbridge area of the west end of Glasgow. With a school roll of 1600 pupils, The Academy also has two smaller schools, Newlands to the south of the city and Milngavie in the north west.

โž— Mathematics beyond the classroom ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ก

We were delighted to welcome Professor Adam McBride OBE from the University of Strathclyde to speak to our S6 pupils. ๐ŸŽ“

One of Scotlandโ€™s most distinguished mathematicians, Professor McBride explored the importance of mathematics in the world beyond school -from its vital role in technology to the ways it shapes our society. ๐ŸŒ

It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to hear from someone with such a wealth of experience, knowledge and passion - leaving S6 with plenty of new ideas and perspectives to explore.

A huge thank you to Professor McBride for joining us and inspiring our pupils.

Our Outdoor Education pupils have been straight back into adventure, taking on the spectacular Luss Gorge! ๐Ÿ’ฆ

From scrambling and swimming to taking the plunge into the water below, it was a brilliant opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence and support one another - all while making the most of Scotlandโ€™s incredible outdoor classroom.

A huge congratulations to Mr Alan Meikle, who has been named Volunteer of the Year at the Scottish Hockey Awards! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Alongside his role at The Academy, Mr Meikle makes an outstanding contribution to hockey through his work with Hillhead, particularly his leadership of the clubโ€™s Futures youth programme and his wider commitment to supporting and developing young players.

We are incredibly proud to see a member of our Academy community recognised at a national level for the time, energy and enthusiasm he gives to the sport. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Weโ€™re delighted to share that Mr Bisland has been announced as one of 48 new members of the RSE Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) for 2026.

The Young Academy brings together some of Scotlandโ€™s most talented and innovative professionals from across education, academia, business, the public and third sectors, and the arts, with members working collaboratively to help create positive and lasting change in Scotland and beyond.

Paulโ€™s appointment is a fantastic recognition of his leadership, expertise and commitment to education, and we are incredibly proud to see him representing The Academy as part of this distinguished group.

๐Ÿ† A very special and thoroughly deserved recognition for Mrs Black!

We are delighted to share that Mrs Black, Head of The Glasgow Academy Nursery and Kindergarten at Kelvinbridge, has been presented with the Early Years Scotland Special Recognition Legacy Award.

The award recognises Rhonaโ€™s longstanding dedication to early years education and the remarkable contribution she has made to children, families and colleagues throughout her career.

Through her years of service, care and commitment, Rhona has made a lasting difference to generations of children and has helped shape the warm, nurturing early years community we are so proud of at The Academy.

A wonderful achievement and a fitting recognition of an exceptional contribution.

We are also excited that Rhona will be leading the launch of our new 0-3 Early Years Nursery, The Bridge, next month.
