COP26 reflections from Jessie…
quickly followed by COP26 was a whirlwind, a rollercoaster. It’s been good and bad.
To be honest, these are the phrases I give to people who ask me how it’s going, how I’m feeling.
However, you know what? I don’t really know how I feel. What words I should use to describe my current state.
I am exhausted with a capital ‘E’.
I am so incredibly scared.
I am unbelievably angry.
By the outcome of
However,
I am excited with a capital ‘E’.
I am incredibly inspired.
I am unbelievably enlightened.
By the awesome humans I have met and connected with.
I am not sure how one person can hold all these emotions at once.

We put out a story the other day asking what people thought makes an activist. This was someone’s answer👆

COP26 reflections from Gwen…
What I tell people when they ask how going to COP was generallyi say something like: “amazing! So many cool people!” … this is the thing I didn’t really get much of a feel for what was going on in the actual climate summit, since I didn’t actually go in myself, occasionally I’d ask my friends who did go in how it was and they’d just say something about how, unsurprisingly, what they were discussing was unambitious and still profit driven. But what I did get to see was the huge amount of amazing people it brought together from all around the world, all of whom care deeply about the sustainability crisis we’re facing. It was an amazing experience to feel so part of such a huge and warm community. The people’s summit was a large part of how I was able to feel so connected to all these people - they organised a “counter COP”, a collection of talks and workshops across many different venues across Glasgow - every workshop / talk I went to was so inspiring, and like I say left me feeling more connected to the global community of climate activists. Lots of the talks were recorded and might still be available online, definitely worth checking out their website.

P.S. if anyone else who classes themselves as a dartmoor young person has any reflections about COP26 (weather you went to Glasgow or not) please get in touch we’d love to share them 🌱

Two of us from DYPF (Jessie and Gwen) have been in Glasgow for COP26 over the last little while… we’ll be sharing our reflections here soon :)

A pumpkin for the pumpkin carving stunt that is doing. I carved a moth, a mushroom, and a leaf (possibly ivy i didn’t decide). Join in if you like, just by carving a pumpkin with an animal or a plant on it, then post it with the hashtag . The aim is to highlight to importance of biodiversity for resilience again climate change.
Have a nice Halloween! 🎃

I’ve been doing a bit of research about COP recently and I thought that I’d share it because there might be other people unsure about what it is and how they can get involved or if they should…
🌍 What is COP26?
( )
-The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. It is scheduled to be held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, between 31 October and 12 November 2021.
-Learn more about the history, terms, and processes of the UN climate change negotiations and COP26 in particular in the link titled: “about COP26 global climate talks” in our bio link tree; you can also look up https://ukcop26.org/ (the official COP26 website) but I found the page that’s in our linktree more informative.
🌍 COP26 coalition
( . Also website in our linktree)
-What is it?
“The COP26 Coalition is a UK-based civil society coalition of groups and individuals mobilising around climate justice during COP26. Coalition members include environment and development NGOs, trade unions, grassroots community campaigns, faith groups, youth groups, migrant and racial justice networks – to name a few.”
-What are they doing?
“6 November: Join us in actions across the world so that we can be loud and clear to the world leaders discussing our future: we want climate justice now!
7-10 November: Join us for our People’s Summit for Climate Justice where the climate justice movement will be coming together to discuss, learn and strategize for system change. You can join in online from anywhere in the world, or in-person in Glasgow.”
(Quotes are from their website)
🌍 Want to get involved with COP26?
-A good place to start is by looking at the COP26 coalition website, where you’ll find loads of organisations and events etc to be a part of… but I’d like to mention that Jessie (one of the DYPF’s core team) is cycling up to COP26 check it out !!!
Hope some of that was useful,
Gwen :)

I’d like to introduce this new project to you, it’s for everyone to get involved with, basically if you know of any Dartmoor / Devon / SW based people or organisations which do activism in any field DM us the name, and if they have an Instagram send that too (they don’t have to be on Instagram to be included in the project) o and you can tell us why you like them… and then we will add them to the list that we’re creating.
You can find the “list” saved as a guide 📖 on our Instagram account :)
Why do we want to do it?? I mean you can probably guess, but I’m gonna post a video about the project soon that will go into that 🌱

The sustainability crisis is the defining issue of our time, all of us at dypf go to the climate strikes because they’re fun, make us feel powerful and like we’re not alone in the struggle to takle this crisis. we invite anyone who sees this to come too!

Heyy! Sorry we’ve not posted in so long, the four of us (Amy, Jessie, Issy and Gwen) have been really busy all summer, doing great stuff but sadly not any DYPF stuff.
I don’t know if you saw that we were planning of doing a walk down the river Dart but we decided not to do that this summer because we didn’t have time to organise it in the way we wanted.
At the moment we’re working on regrouping and making a solid plan for the long term future (and near future) of the DYPF. If you’ve thought about joining the core group of the DYPF now might be a good time to slip in btw :)
Other than that I plan to do a couple things on here soon so watch this space!
All the best, Gwen x
