🏦 Economics Students Welcome Bank of England Chief Economist

An exciting and informative opportunity for our Year 12 and 13 Economics students on 20th October as they welcomed Huw Pill, Chief Economist at the Bank of England, as part of his regional tour of the North East. Huw was accompanied by Mauricio Armellini, the Bank of England’s Agent for the North East.

Huw spoke to students about the role of the Bank of England, monetary policy and how interest rates are set, bringing their Economics studies to life with a real-world perspective. 📈💷

Students also had the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session, asking questions and hearing directly from those working at the heart of UK economic policy.

A fantastic experience for our students and a great way to see Economics in action! 👏

Y7 Girls Football Gateshead Schools League - 19/10/26

The team opened with a hard-fought 1-1 draw (Eilidh M - 14') against Lord Lawson, showing great determination and teamwork throughout!

In the second match, the girls battled superbly but were narrowly beaten 2-0. We had no substitutes available, while our opponents Whickham rotated three rolling subs. The game remained goalless until the closing stages, with both goals coming in the final 3mins; a harsh result when our team had competed so well throughout!

Plenty of positives from the evening, and great commitment from every player! Well done ladies! HMC 💙⚽️

U13 Girls Football First Round DCSFA County Cup - 16/10/26

The Cardinal Comets strike again in a nail-biting first round. Our girls showed incredible determination and resilience, putting in some outstanding tackles, fearless challenges and creating a defensive wall that made life incredibly difficult for the opposition.

Every player fought for every ball, worked tirelessly for one another and showed fantastic character to secure a well-deserved 2-1 victory!

⚽ Year 9 Boys Send a Message! 💪

Cardinal Hume's Year 9 boys football team made a real statement of intent last night with a thumping 7-1 victory over last season's Gateshead League champions Lord Lawson.

Captain Toby C continued his red-hot vein of form at the start of this season, completing a first half hattrick in 17 minutes to take his personal goal tally to 7 goals across the first 3 games.

Beldrique A and Lucas H joined in on the fun scoring a goal each, with the 3 lads combining to play some incredible football that toyed with the Lord Lawson back line all night. Mason G and Lucas S provided the engine behind them in midfield, covering every blade of grass in the first half to give the boys a 5-0 lead at the break.

A Lucas S header from a corner and another stunning strike from outside the box by Beldrique A sealed the deal. Lord Lawson scored a late consolidation from the penalty spot that was a harsh way for goalkeeper James W and his backline of Joe L, Ksawery M and Leon W to lose the clean sheet that their play deserved.

The boys are back in action next Thursday in the County Cup, looking to build on one of their best ever results. Message officially sent to the rest of Gateshead 💪

Congratulations to Laura N! Last week Laura won 2x fights in the Northwest Judo Open in Manchester! Her Martial Arts skills were put to the test when competing in the 44kg competition; 4kg above her own weight category! Both victories were achieved by throwing the opponent to the floor which resulted in automatic wins after only 4 mins! Huge congratulations! HMC
