What do I do if I find a deceased beaver?

Sadly, our dear departed furball is still on the A36.

If you find a dead beaver:

📍 Note the exact location (Google Maps or Grid Reference Finder).

📞 Report it to Natural England:
0300 060 3900
[email protected]

They will pass the details to their team to decide on safe collection and post-mortem at ZSL.

If you have already recovered/are thinking of recovering the beaver, email:

📧 [email protected]

They will arrange courier collection and send packaging instructions and the required form.

Keep in mind though:

• It can't be stored at a domestic property. The beaver will need to be kept in either a building where animals and the elements can't get to it, or a fridge not used for food. (Natural England has suggested somewhere like a vet may be able to store it).

• The courier is usually next day (depending on when the beaver was retrieved)

• You will need three large heavy duty compactor bags. Nitrile gloves and a mask while retrieving the beaver (ideally at the scene if it's safe to do so).

There is no licensing issue with holding a beaver for collection, but recovery, especially from roads, is at your own risk.

If you can help, please contact Natural England at [email protected]
or email me and I'll connect you with them:
