Primary 3 have had a great DYW week. Thank you to all our visitors who came into school to share what they do for their jobs and how they help our communities.

DYW WEEK in P5M

We all developed our skills in the world of work as we created our own retail shops, it has been a great week creating, making and building all of our products.

We worked together as a team helping one another to make our shop successful and this was evident when we were able to showcase the shops today. It was such a fun experience!

During Developing the Young Workforce Week, Primary 1 explored jobs, roles and skills within the hospitality industry. We enjoyed a visit to Maitland’s, where we saw how a real café operates and had the opportunity to speak with Mr and Mrs Maitland about the skills needed to run a successful café. They kindly showed us around the kitchen and servery, giving us a real insight into day-to-day operations.

We were also very lucky to welcome Bethany Buchan, former owner of Cakerella Cakery and Home Economics teacher at Fraserburgh Academy. She taught us all about the importance of preparation, organisation and food hygiene when running a cake shop. Bethany demonstrated cake decorating techniques, and we had great fun applying these skills to decorate our own cakes.

To finish off our learning, we set up our very own café! We baked rocky roads and top hats, practised good hygiene by washing our hands and wearing aprons, and worked together to create menus, table covers and welcoming signs.

We then took turns visiting the café and working as waiters and waitresses. The children were organised, polite, excellent communicators and worked safely throughout. They served each other the food they had prepared earlier, used the menus they created to choose their orders, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! 🍰 🍽️

DYW week

P5S worked so hard creating their own shops and products to sell, advertising them and calculating their costs, displaying so many metaskills too.
Well done to ‘Shimmer n Shine’ who made the most profit. So many future entrepreneurs in 5S!
