I want to write a bit about how I came to be a coach as it shapes the way I work and the coaching services I offer. Before I became a coach, I spent 19 years working as a journalist writing for National Titles, trade magazines and online business websites. Although the work was intellectually satisfying, something was missing from my life. I was dissatisfied with being an observer in life and deci
ded to change careers at the age of 48, to work as a Facilitator. The chance to re-train as a Facilitator was an incredible opportunity and involved my heart, as well as my head. It was incredibly rewarding to support groups of young people in their personal development, especially in one of the programmes where they created and delivered their own community projects. There is nothing more inspiring than seeing someone grow in confidence and start to acknowledge their qualities and talents. During the pandemic, I began to use nature imagery in my one-to-one sessions with young people to support them to unearth their qualities and their support systems. Nature provided a great deal of solace to me during this time and I actually learnt so much from the natural world about being human. I realised that I wanted to use my coaching skills on a one-to-one basis with a particular focus on supporting an individual to recognise and acknowledge their talents and how they could best use those gifts in their lives. I decided to incorporate the use of nature images in my coaching in a coaching workbook, as the natural world can teach us so much about the qualities of resilence, regeneration and rest. Nature can also be incredibly forgiving and generous. I also realise that that many peoples' lives are out of balance. I was so focused on my work that I forgot to learn how to play. My coaching sessions would be of benefit to people who feel that their lives are out of balance and are seeking more space in their life for self-care, whatever form that takes.
