Susanna says that the MHS has deepened and expanded her existing knowledge base and brought entirely new perspectives and understanding to mental health challenges, their roots causes and spiritual dimension.

Working as a biographical counsellor in the field of mental health and long-term chronic pain conditions, she values the Mental Health Seminar both as a rich personal as well as a professional resource.

She said about the course: “I found it enlivening and encouraging to encounter a spiritualised psychology and physiology in what can seem a barren landscape in the mainstream arena.

The seminar and the teachings have enabled me to meet people suffering with complex mental health issues and multiple diagnostic labels with more confidence and understanding, much better able to identify a therapeutic pathway for their recovery.

The seminar had so many facets, it facilitated each person’s growth and development in a unique way. All the tutors were fantastic, bringing a wealth of experience to the course, complementing each other, and modelling the best of colleagueship and thereby infusing the training with trust and substance.

What I have learnt and absorbed over these years continues to support me in my work and in life, for which I am immensely grateful.”

'A truly transformative process, facilitated by speakers who love and embody their content. All hold a very genuine desire to also be student as well as teacher. My work, my family and myself will benefit from this course, both in its immediate impact and the impact of the seeds that have been planted and are yet to germinate.’

The Mental Health Seminar offers participants opportunities to deepen an experience-based and empathic understanding for individuals struggling with their mental health including addressing challenges of those closely involved in their support.

The programme also gives participants opportunities to explore these challenging themes in ways that are based on lived experience rather than only on abstract diagnosis, aiming to enhance capacities to respond meaningfully to psychological challenges.

‘The MHS is a unique training in anthroposophy with a focus on physical, emotional and mental well-being of ourselves and others delivered in a living balance that shifts from the essentially creative to the sharper world of pure thought based knowledge.

After each module I drive home with a feeling of being part of something very precious.’

When Lone joined the MHS course she felt like a ‘fish out of water’ but as the course progressed, she started to feel more comfortable. She said she found that the whole of the faculty were very approachable, answering any questions she had wholeheartedly.
Here is how she described her experience:

“My first time at the MHS I didn’t know what I was letting myself in for. I am much more a practical person rather than an academic, that worried me, would I be able to keep up and understand what was being said? I didn’t need to worry; I was made to feel very welcome and included.

The amount of knowledge and experience that James, Marah, Michael, Karen, Catherine and Mike surrounded us with during the three years has been totally amazing and inspiring.

I feel very fortunate to have been part of this wonderful course, experiencing; looking closely at the main organs in our bodies and their functions from an Anthroposophical point of view, human relationships, the senses, life processes, personality disorders, acting out those disorders with Mike Chase wearing the masks he had made.

I would totally recommend this course, the amount of knowledge I have gained in all areas of Anthroposophy has given me the courage to hold my own in a conversation, add my learning to courses run at work and understand and see the signs of mental health in the people I work with.

Thank you to all of you for opening my mind to a whole new world of seeing things from a different perspective, it has been revolutionary.“

In his feedback about the Mental Health Seminar course Richard told us that he had found the training was not only informative and integrating but that “it also lays the foundations for the expansion and development of the profession within its own terms and in relation to its neighbouring disciplines; a deepening and expansion therefore of colleagueship in every sense.”

The programme offers participants opportunities to explore these challenging themes in ways that are based on lived experience rather than only on abstract diagnosis. It also aims to enhance capacities to respond meaningfully to psychological challenges.

Professionals active in counselling, psychotherapy, social work and Health and Social Care are warmly invited to apply for a place on this Seminar as well as teachers, therapists, educators, administrators and other individuals committed to deepening their understanding for both adolescents and adults
