Autumn Pause, Day Retreat 🍂

Yesterday we gathered to carve out time for rest and reflection. A day of beautiful nourishing practices and an Autumn feast to delight all of the senses by the incredible Wild Ginger

I am so grateful to all the wonderful women who shared the day with me, thank you, as always it was such an honour to hold space for you all 🙏

Yin Yoga is a delicious practice of stillness and silence. Within this type of practice we can appreciate the sweet surrender that comes with letting go. We live in a world which is essentially very Yang in its nature, busy, loud, fast! so Yin yoga becomes a beautiful gift to complement and balance the Yang.

Unlike Restorative Yoga however, where we seek to take the load off the body in Yin yoga we seek to put the load on, through passive traction and gravity, targeting the joints, bones, tendons, ligaments and fascia. We do this to strengthen and stimulate the body’s tissues, and to balance the body energetically.

I teach this practice from a functional approach, where you will be encouraged to practice postures which are suitable for your own unique structure in a gentle and safe way.

In this 2 hr extended practice there will be lots of time to linger in juicy rebounds and end with a long blissful Savasana.

So much gratitude to those who attended Restorative Bliss last night 🌻✨ Two blissful hours to soothe the nervous system and gently drop into deep, nourishing rest.

This is what one of last nights students shared after the session:
‘That was wonderful. Thank you so so much. I feel like like I am on a high of contentment’

The next session is Sunday 26th July, 5-7pm (£25)

🥵 Pranayama to cool the body

I hope you are surviving the heat, here are a couple of breathing techniques you can apply if you are feeling overwhelmed, overheated or agitated.

Sitali Prananyama (cooling breath)

How to do it:
-sit comfortably with a tall spine
-Close the eyes
-Extend the tongue as far as you can and then roll the sides of the tongue into a tube
-Inhale slowly through the tongue
-Close the mouth, exhale slowly through the nose
-Repeat for 8-12 breaths
-Bring awareness to the tongue, the sound and the cooling sensation of the cooling breath

Sitkari Pranayama (hissing breath)

How to do it:
-Sit comfortably with a tall spine
-Close the eyes
-Bring the teeth together with lips parted, resting the tip of tongue behind top front teeth
-Inhale slowly through the teeth
-Close the mouth and exhale slowly through the nose
-Bribg awareness to the hissing sound and cooling sensation of the inhaled breath.

Benefits ❄️
-Cools the body
-Regulates the nervous system
-Activates the parasympathetic nervous system
-Cools and reduces mental and emotional agitation
-Supports better sleep and relaxation

There is the rare opportunity to join me in July for 2 hours of glorious restorative practices. These sessions usually sell out in hours but with lots of regulars away on holiday there are some spaces next month.

If life feels busy or heavy, if you are holding a lot, caring for others or you are just craving the opportunity to pause I would love to share this beautiful practice with you.

A little bit of life lately 🌞

1. In my skate park era
2. This one’s confidence is really blossoming and it’s beautiful to witness
3. We are taking part in a 10hr litter picking challenge 💚
4. Lots of flower collecting, pressing and creating 🌸
5. Painting spirals for Summer Solstice 🌀
6. Handmade Sun mask 🌞
7. Farm visits
8. Making with our hands
9. My beautiful girl meditating by the river, she wanted to tune into nature 🥰
10. Making Sun bread
11. The outcome
12. A little 🐝 for our nature table
13. Lots and lots of play ✨

I have been quiet in this space lately as life is fully taken up with home education/parenting. I often feel torn between home life and how much I invest in ‘work’. I would love to have more time for self practice, training, more teaching (an inner juggle/battle I’m sure we all as mothers find ourselves in). I am also aware I am living Yoga every single day and parenting my beautiful girl has advanced my practice off the mat more then I would ever have expected.

It is so lovely to see R really starting to thrive after a long period of challenge and I am feeling incredibly proud ❤️

The next extended Yin Yoga practice will be on Saturday 4th July 2-4pm ✨🙏Link to book is is stories/bio
