Layfin Art

Layfin Art Captivating emotional images on canvas Shona is 58 and currently lives in the lovely little village of East Wemyss on the Coastal Path.

She loves the Wemyss Villages, having brought her only son up in the nearby village of Coaltown of Wemyss which sits within the Levenmouth area of Fife in beautiful rural Scotland and the villages are steeped in history. She grew up in nearby Buckhaven. Her young life was never easy, being bullied at school constantly and her parents split when she was just about to start high school. She lived on

her own with her Dad who was working away from home during the week and she only saw at weekends. He wasn't there for her emotionally so she lost herself in book, writing and nature. Shona has always found solace in nature then and now, loving the freedom and fresh air of camping throughout Scotland in her tent. It is here that she gets her inspiration for her art, from the rolling clouds over the sea to the majestic mountains in the highlands and the peace of the forests. Shona's mum was a great artist and always discouraged her from following in her footsteps so for that reason art was put on a back burner until the grand old age of 35 when her son was born.. and she could deny this flame no longer so when he turned 2 she enrolled in an Art Portfolio class at Fife College where her tutor Peter McGoldrick encouraged her each step of the way.. This would be the catalyst for a real passion, where with the other mature student in the class they held the most successful art exhibition the college has seen to date! Shona also went on to winning the Vettriano Scholarship after meaning her hero in class. When college finished she then went on to be a successful self employed artist with WonderfulWorks where she specialised in bespoke wedding stationery, commission pieces of art and designing and making unique cards and calendars for local tourist board shops in Fife! She was once the only calligraphist in the Yellow Pages too! honing these skills throughout the years from getting 'lines' at school all the time for talking! She turned a negative thing in to a pleasure and spent nearly 7 years writing certificates for the Royal College of Organists. Something which she really loved doing until her eyesight faded a bit and arthritis started in her hands.. She then had to sadly give this up. Shona has won awards for her work in the community. Running craft and art classes for disadvantaged groups from elderly blind people to children who were excluded from main stream school and single parent groups through being a active member of Fife Gingerbread. After a bit of a break and coping with more health issues Shona is creating again, specialising in Pet Portraits and Abstract art!! She also loves to knit and crochet in the winter months when the light isn't so good. Other skills handed down from her mum.
