This is the importance of playing with play dough and sensory messy play and all the activities that we provide, to build up strength in their little hands 🙌
Did you know that a 3-year old (top left image) and a 6-year old (top right image) have significantly different skeletal structure in their hands?! Notice the bones in the wrist of the 3-year old -- many of them are still mostly cartilage! Look at all the spaces in between the bones where muscles and tendons will change through the years. Even the difference between a 6-year old and a 14-year old (lower right) is huge!
Preschoolers have SO much development to do before they can write the way school-aged children or adults can!
Please do NOT stress if your preschooler does not want to write or draw. Some love it and some don't.
While they are growing, strengthen those little bones and muscles! Here are some great pre-writing, muscle-strengthening activities:
* painting, drawing, coloring
* tearing and cutting
* poking holes in things (try toothpicks and paper!)
* digging in dirt
* building with LEGOS, marble runs, or other blocks
* beading (try beads, cut straws, or even bobbins!)
* squeezing (try stress balls, squeezing water in a sponge, or using a pipette)
* picking up and throwing balls (use different sizes!)
* playing with toys (watch what their little fingers do when they pick up and move little cars, marbles, action figures, etc!)
These all strengthen and help develop little hands, muscles, and bones. When they are physically ready to write, it will be so much easier than if they were pushed when they didn't want to and weren't ready!
International women’s day, we celebrated yesterday by giving our mummies a little flower, to say thank you for being there for us all.
To all the special women out there, you are strong, brave and wonderful!
☃️❄️☃️ Today we made snowmen cookies to have for our pudding today. The children helped us make them and they wanted a snowman cookie as they saw snow this morning! ☃️❄️☃️
We have celebrated World Book Day, the best way we know how…. Dressing up and reading stories!!
🌟🌟🌟 experiment 🌟🌟🌟 we have had so much fun this morning with a little experiment, at first we felt the dry and warm and powdery cornflour we then adds the wet and cold and yellow water and changed the way the cornflour looked and felt. The children said new words such as ‘dry, soft, warm, wet, cold, gooey, squidgy, yellow, feels like flour, powdery’
We encourage the children to be independent and learn life skills, we do this by giving children choices, grown up jobs and washing their plates and bowls after meal times. This supports children’s language, physical skills, routines and understanding of the world!
We have had a wonderful with our parents that have come in and created some lovely crafts with their children; we made reindeer food, Christmas wreaths, snowflakes and snowman! Thank you all for joining we hope you had a lovely time too.
We have been very busy in the garden working on our gross motor skills.
We love being active!
Christmas has arrived at Little George’s the children had fun decorating the Christmas tree with us
This morning during circle time we opened our advent presents, today we received handmade knitted animals and some insects!
We are really going to enjoy playing with the new toys!
We can’t wait for Monday to see what we get to play with next 🎁🎄🎁
At Little George’s we learn through play! Sometimes it amazes us as children what we can do, we can do everything that we want to do and be! We learn how to be ourselves and what we like and what we don’t like, we learn to be independent and learn how to problem solve all through play.
