Fountain Pen Ink: Concertina Sketchbook

This is going to be a good one! In this full day workshop with Nick Stewart, you will explore and experiment with fountain pen inks, an incredibly diverse medium. The day will be focused around discovering what the inks can do, developing your mark-making skills, and then filling a concertina sketchbook to take home.

Suitable for all levels, regardless of experience. You may bring your own images to work from, perhaps photos you particularly like, or of places that hold meaning for you (please check website for specifications). Light boxes will be available, so please do not worry that you 'cannot draw'!

DRAWING WITH CHARCOAL: Land & Sea

This workshop covers the fundamentals of using charcoal as a drawing medium, with a specific focus on creating engaging landscapes or seascapes.

Through a series of exercises, you will become familiar with the materials and tools associated with charcoal, creating a sketchbook of mark-making and small studies, before developing your own complex, multilayered drawing.

Your tutor is the lovely Garry Parsons, a very successful artist and illustrator, with a career spanning over two decades working with some of the UK's most respected children's book authors. His fine art practice focuses on the natural world, with charcoal as his medium of choice.

The workshop is suitable for those new to charcoal, as well as more experienced artists looking to develop their skills.

Join us for an enjoyable ceramics session where you'll make a selection of decorations using the stunning Nerikomi technique.

Using hand-building methods, you'll form the clay into a selection of shapes, creating decorations to hang on your tree, or give as gifts. If you would like, and time allows, you may also make a small tealight holder.

Spend the day printmaking, discovering the process of drypoint etching.

Drypoint is an intaglio (into the surface) form of printmaking, whereby a design is scratched into the surface of a plate, and ink is then pushed into the resulting grooves.

Using our professional printing press, the plate is printed, and can be combined with the chine colle technique, using thin decorative papers to add colour to your design.

Come along and enjoy a day of learning and experimenting with these techniques in a relaxed environment, guided by a professional printmaker - everyone welcome from complete beginners, to curious creatives and experienced printmakers.

In this one day bookbinding workshop with Hope Fitzgerald from Bindfulness, you will learn the art of Japanese stab binding, inspired by Master Craftsman, Kojiro Ikegami.

Japanese stab binding (fukuro toji) is a traditional, beginner-friendly, and decorative bookbinding method characterized by exposed stitching along a solid spine, often using four holes.

You will also be able to choose from Hope's beautiful collection of suminagashi and chiyogami papers to make your own uniquely designed books.

We're very pleased to announce a new workshop date with linocut artist, Nick Morley . Join Nick here in October for our 'Colour Linocut: Weekend Masterclass'.

Over the course of a weekend, you will learn or revise the basics of linocut printing, then discover how to effectively plan and execute two-colour prints. You'll leave with a small edition of your own two-colour linocut design, plus bags of inspiration, and the knowledge you need to continue printmaking at home.

This masterclass is suitable for beginners, or more experienced printmakers who want to develop their colour registration skills. Don't miss this opportunity to learn everything you need to know from this expert printmaker, tutor and author.

Curious about clay? Or maybe you're already a potter, looking to add to your skillset... or perhaps you just fancy spending a creative day making something beautiful.

In our half day Nerikomi workshop, you'll blend black and white clays to create striking graphic patterns and, using hand building methods, shape the clay into your choice of two items including a mug, small dish, or tile.

You'll learn how to work with clay, using the slab building method, as well as discovering the stunning Japanese technique of Nerikomi, with the option to try out some marbling as well.

Morning and afternoon sessions available - or book both and make a day of it!
