🕷️ EYFS Spider Rice Krispie Cakes for Halloween

To celebrate Halloween, the children had lots of fun making spooky spider Rice Krispie cakes! We began by talking about Halloween and all the different things we might see — pumpkins, bats, and of course, spiders!

The children helped to mix melted chocolate with Rice Krispies, carefully stirring and scooping the mixture into cupcake cases.

This activity encouraged teamwork, listening, and following instructions, while also supporting fine motor skills as the children stirred, scooped, and decorated. They showed great creativity and imagination in designing their spiders — some were funny, some scary, and all were delicious!

The children were very proud of their spooky creations and loved sharing them with their friends. 👻🍫

🍂 EYFS Autumn Painting Activity

This week, the children took part in a lovely autumn-themed painting activity. We began by talking about the changes we can see during autumn — the colourful leaves, conkers, acorns, and the cooler weather. The children looked closely at autumn leaves and used their observation skills to notice the different shapes and colours, such as reds, oranges, yellows, and browns.

Using a range of tools, including paintbrushes, sponges, and even real leaves, the children explored colour mixing and printing techniques to create their own autumn-inspired artwork. They experimented with blending paints to see what new colours they could make and enjoyed making leaf prints and patterns.

This activity supported the children’s creative expression, fine motor development, and understanding of the world. It also encouraged them to use descriptive language to talk about what they could see and how the season was changing.

The finished paintings look beautiful and really capture the warm, rich colours of autumn! 🍁

Poppy painting In talking about why we celebrate Remembrance Day, we teach children about the significance of history and the importance of maintaining peace. It’s an opportunity to educate children and foster a sense of gratitude, empathy and respect for those who have served and those who serve today.

💥🔥 Bonfire Night 🔥💥
Bonfire Night is an exciting time of the year filled with colour, light, and sound. It’s also the perfect opportunity to educate children on a key part of England’s history. The children enjoyed our activity and we talked about bonfire night and what the children expected to see when they attend their bonfires. Arts and crafts provide a fun and interactive way for children to practice things like their fine motor skills and their problem-solving capabilities🔥

Finger painting 🌳 It’s a great form of sensory play, which boosts language learning. Finger painting improves fine motor development by strengthening finger and hand muscles. It allows children to express their feelings without words. Doing it in a group can promote social skills, like sharing paint pots, taking turns, working together.

Leaves check all the boxes for both gross motor skills and fine motor development. The children loved going out this morning to collect the leaves and then enjoyed gluing and sticking to create their own little trees, we used paint sticks to create the bark of the tree. The children enjoyed this activity and were excited to show their parents their artwork 🌳 🌳

Small world play helps to develop children's fine motor skills as they handle tools, objects, construction and malleable materials with increasing control. Mathematical concepts such as size, pattern, position and sorting can be explored through fun and engaging play

Pumpkin painting
Working with a brush or small tool helps develop fine motor skills (small muscle control). While working on large sheets of paper or at the easel helps develop large muscle control (Gross Motor skills). Painting also helps develop your child's hand eye coordination.
