🇬🇧👑We're getting ready to celebrate here at nursery!👑🇬🇧

OH, WHAT A JUBILATION: A CORONATION

Oh, what jubilation: A Coronation
The sixth of May Is Coronation Day
The bells will ring
We will have a new King
If you've not heard
He will be King Charles the third
And along with Camilla by his side
She will be crowned The Queen Consort with pride
The procession to the Palace where many will be
Then The Royal Family waving from the balcony
The next day a concert from Windsor Castle grounds
A large and diverse assortment of sounds
So in our communities lets be jolly and hearty
And get together for a great street party
So on Bank Holiday Monday what's it all about
We're being encouraged to volunteer and help out
Looking at this exciting occasion
We will unite and rejoice as a nation
Support our Royal Family without a fuss
Let's strengthen the country for all of us

What a week! We've been celebrating 🌈 Holi Festival of Colours, 📚 World Poetry Day, AND 💧World Water Day!
🌈
Each class has been singing the Rainbow Song, complete with the British Sign Language signs for the different colours.
💧
Orange Class have been using tools for a purpose – little hammers to reveal the paint colours under the cotton balls. They've been playing “feed the monkey” with colourful pompoms to aid their colour recognition and fine motor skills and using tools in their water play to retrieve different colour pompoms!
📚
Blue Class have been tin foil painting for added texture, making a tree collage using different colour tissue, and playing with a colour tuff tray. They've also been painting by blowing paint through straws – an excellent speech development exercise to help build muscles in and around the mouth!
🌈
Green Class have been learning what happens when you mix different colours. using the 3 prime colours to see what other colours they can make and playing colour-matching games. For World PoetryDay, they have been playing rhyming games, whereby children came up with words that sound the same. The children have also been experimenting to find out which items will sink and which will float for World Water Day.
💧
We've also been enjoying Dr Seuss stories for rhyme and rhythm, and word rhyming games involving sticking socks on Fox and the hat on Cat!

Why do nestboxes matter? | Nestbox Week 16/02/2023

This week we've been celebrating National Nestbox Week!

Our smallest creatives have been making two types of nests - one with shredded wheat and one with paper, while our toddlers and preschoolers are crafting nest boxes using materials of their choice and finding the best places outside to attract birds.

Why do nestboxes matter? | Nestbox Week Our gardens, parks and woodland are neater and tidier than they used to be, depriving birds of natural holes to find a home. And to make matters worse there are fewer handy nooks and crannies in modern buildings. The populations of many bird species are down as a result of this housing shortage.

Continuing our environmental theme this week we are learning about the moon and different planets, the importance of looking after our own planet, and simple things we can all do to help.

🏔
The bigger children are getting stuck into some water play with animals, enjoying an animal scavenger hunt and learning all sorts of interesting facts about where animals live.
🌲
Using the habitat theme, our preschoolers are focusing on literacy, exploring different stories, predicting what will happen next, joining in the repeated refrains; and working on their prewriting with plenty of finger gym activities.
