I love this bit of nostalgia about the introduction of the television.

I think what would be more interesting to hear of somebody talk about when the computer first came in.

I remember when I first started work and there was an option between working with a computer or a typewriter. I would always choose the computer. And then when spellcheck came in, my God what a game changer. I remember vowing that I’d never work anyway they didn’t have a spellchecker.

A little personal news from me.

Yesterday, I was re-elected as Deputy Mayor of my home town, which is a real honour and something I never take for granted.

Community matters deeply to me, and one of the things I value most is listening to people, whether that is in council meetings, local conversations, training rooms, or in business.

Only recently, I was holding a Town Council surgery at the local library, speaking with residents about issues affecting them. What struck me, as it often does, is how much difference it makes when people feel properly heard.

This time of year naturally slows the pace a little and reminds us of what matters. Whether I have trained you already, will be working with you in the future, or you simply follow the page to learn and grow, I want to acknowledge the effort you put into developing yourself in a world that rarely gives you breathing space.

Christmas isn’t about perfection. It is about moments, connection, and allowing yourself a pause without guilt. If you carry that into the season, you are already doing something important for your wellbeing and growth.

Thank you for being part of this community, for your curiosity, your ambition, and the trust you place in me and my training. It genuinely means a great deal.

Wishing you a peaceful Christmas and a new year that gives you space to learn, progress and feel proud of what you achieve.

I’ve been thinking a lot this week about stoppers. Not the sensible kind that protect us, but the quiet ones that sit in the background and keep us small.

What stops you from going for that promotion you’d actually be good at?
What stops you from asking for the training you know would make your job easier, or help you move forward?
What stops you from asking for a pay rise when your responsibilities have quietly doubled?

Very often, it isn’t a lack of ability.
It’s self doubt. Fear of being told no. Not wanting to rock the boat. Telling yourself “now isn’t the right time”.

I see incredibly capable admin professionals every day who already have the skills, the experience, and the work ethic, but hesitate to speak up for themselves. And yet careers rarely move forward by accident. They move forward when someone decides they are worth investing in.

Sometimes the biggest shift isn’t learning something new. It’s giving yourself permission to ask.

If this has struck a chord, take it as a nudge. Not to rush or panic, but to reflect. What’s one conversation you’ve been putting off that could make a real difference to your career?

Small steps count. Confidence grows with action.

Just goes to show how important matter and the power of a comma or full stop.

Ashford International Railway station was absolutely glorious. Clean fresh and welcoming. Can’t often say that about a railway station. Had a fantastic day in Training yesterday. Lots of minute Taking learning and I think everybody went away with a fresh outlook on what minute Taking is all about. Love it.
