Crofton LRC

Please support our LRC by returning, or renewing, books on Monday/Tuesday morning. We still have over 300 showing as overdue and automated reminders have been sent to parents this afternoon.

Our book stocks are owned and sourced by Crofton School, not a library service, and therefore any loss or damage directly impacts the range of books on offer to Crofton Students. So far this year alone in excess of 80 books have not been returned or replaced and fines have been left unpaid.

LRC fines are used towards the replacement cost of the books that have been lost or damaged. The shortfall is taken from our budget for new books.

Please help us to keep our LRC interesting and enticing by looking after your books and returning them when finished. Many Thanks 🙏

There will be lots of different activities to celebrate Pride Month.

Tuesday-Thursday lunch times, the Pride Club will be available outside of the LRC to answer student and staff questions about LGBTQ+ issues, to help others gain a better understanding of why Pride Month is so important. 

On Friday, at break, there will be the opportunity for students to raise money for the Mermaid Charity by having their faces painted and making badges in support of LGBTQ+. At lunch there will be a celebration on the tennis courts, with live music from our very own Year 10 band Neptune, and students will have the opportunity to by beads, flags and whistles, also raising money for the Mermaid Charity, and celebrate Pride in style. 

There is a QR Code to make donations, however it might be a good idea for students to bring in a little bit of money if they want to take part in the activities on Friday. 

Friday/Saturday was the annual School Librarian Association conference, this year held in Sheffield. A fabulous event attended by around 200 people from around the UK, and beyond, sharing ideas, knowledge and a passion for school libraries.

Speakers included authors Patrick Ness, Nicola Morgan, Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Julian Sedgwick, Danielle Jawando, Lucy Strange, Lisa Williamson, Candy Gourlay and Sarah Hagger-Holt. Workshops included the impact of AI, A guide to Graphics Novels, Tween Reading and New Releases....

A busy, but inspiring, weekend. Returning to the LRC with a bag full of freebies books for our shelves, plus a few more still to come from the guest authors.....and plenty to think about!

Did you know it's Deaf Awareness Week in the UK? We have a number of titles in the LRC and via on our digital library, Sora, that feature D/deaf characters, storylines and facts...

The first batch of this term's new titles have been added to Reading Cloud and are now on display in the LRC.
New books across all genres, Middle Years and Young Adult, but do look out for our new section containing biographies....

If you would like to take the option to dress up or decorate a t-shirt, come and register your entry at break. Judging will then take place at lunchtime for a bookish prize. 📚

Missing Manga!

The Christmas stock check of our small manga collection is complete. We, sadly, have one copy of Demon Slayer and four from My Hero Academia missing, hopefully just because people have forgotten to visit the desk to get them signed out 🤞
