Flushing School celebrates opening of long-awaited library with award-winning author Rebecca Cobb
Pupils at Flushing C of E Primary School began an exciting new chapter on Thursday, as the school celebrated the official opening of its long-awaited new library.
The library was opened by the school's team of pupil Reading Ambassadors alongside members of Flushing Pantomime, and special guest Rebecca Cobb, the Falmouth-based, award-winning author and illustrator whose books include A Wild Walk to School, Julia Donaldson's The Paper Dolls and the newly published The Ice Cream Crocodile. Rebecca then led illustration workshops for all of the children in the school.
The new library has been made possible thanks to fundraising and the generosity of the local community, including Flushing Pantomime, Flushing Village Club, the Helford Car Park Trust, Flushing Stores, Harbour Lights, Flushing Coffee Morning and the Flushing and Mylor Magazine. Supporters who helped make the library a reality were also treated to a special performance of poetry by the children.
Carolyn Power, Headteacher of Flushing C of E Primary School, said: "We are always blown away by the wonderful support we receive from the local community, and are especially grateful for their financial support that has made this library a reality. The children now have a fantastic mix of books to choose from and a lovely, inviting space to enjoy them in."
Flushing School’s year 4 Reading Ambassador, Obi, said: "It's really amazing to have a library now because we have some really great reading books and it's special for children who love reading". Elsie, also in year 4, said: "We had a great morning with Rebecca Cobb who taught us how to draw "A Wild Walk To School" and let our imaginations run wild!"
