Don't mind if I do!.....enjoy having my mind mildly blown by this one tonight! ๐ถ๐ต
Charlotte (Primary 6 and has a distinction in grade 1 theory and a Merit pass on Initial Grade Practical) comes in telling me that she would like to play Jingle Bells as a duet with her flautist friend. 'That would be lovely' I said!
This is what followed from Charlotte (with a lot of enthusiasm!) ๐
I've already seen friend's music โ
๏ธ
I know that her first note on the chorus part is an 'A' โ
๏ธ
I realise that is different from my music (which she has learned herself since her last lesson!) โ
๏ธ
A few questions / prompts from me and we continue -
So that means I'm in the key of 'G' and she is in the key of 'F'? - Me -'Yes Charlotte' โ
๏ธ
That means I will need new music ? - Me - 'Or we could use this as an exercise in Transposition and re-write your music'' โ
๏ธ
Charlotte pauses, and then asks 'So I have to lower every note by a tone? - Me - YES! YES! YES! โ
๏ธ
And off she went notating!!
Having taught transposition into new keys many times for the grade 5 theory exam, I know how tricky students can find this concept - so YES! I will do a happy dance when a student finds it pretty straightforward!
Bravo Charlotte! Your understanding, knowledge and use of technical language is just tremendous!
Really great work!
And your duet with your friend will be wonderful!
Well done! ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐ถ๐ต๐น
