Beltane Blessings 🌷 and it’s a Full (Flower) Moon
"…….There is a notable energy shift now, and the lighter warmer days and flourishing nature, bring more passion and vitality with them. With the Sun and the warmth, we want to be outside, we don’t want to be restrained inside by the cold dark wintry days, but to run, swim, play. As Beltane embraces the joining of feminine and masculine energy, the God has grown and matured into manhood, and the Goddess has grown into a young woman, both ready to explore their early adulthood and step from childhood and enter into the sacred marriage.
The God is dressed in green and covered in leaves, representing the wildness of nature, and the Goddess in her maiden form, is ready to move towards the mother aspect, and as such the two unite. The Goddess will become pregnant and will prepare for the birth of the God later in the year which will enable the continuity of life and representing the abundance of the future harvest. This was known as the Greenwood marriage, where the Horned God (horns representing fertility, and a symbol across many cultures and beliefs) and the Goddess would be re-enacted by members of the community, and it was traditional to stay up all night long and greet the dawn…….
…..people danced around the maypole and handfasting’s took place under the moon if she showed herself and were celebrated until the dawn brought the new day. This practice was banned in the 1600’s. The Puritans found the ‘promiscuity’ and morality outrageous, they tried to ban the Greenwood marriage, but probably just succeeded in retreating them into secrecy. They also made the Maypole illegal"……want to know more? Except from The Sun, The Seasons, & The Soul ©️W. Abbot - The painting is Flower Full Moon from my Full Moon Altar cards - link in the comments
