Cochlear Implants are a fantastic piece of technology for the deaf and hard of hearing community!

It’s a small electronic medical device that provides a sense of sound to adults and children with severe-to-profound deafness or hearing loss who do not benefit enough from standard hearing aids.

Amy S, our social media consultant was born profoundly deaf and she wears a Ci and it allows her to hear like someone who can hear to their full potential. It comes with challenges and will never be perfect, but it’s been life changing for her and she wouldn’t change it 🩷

Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VII, experienced significant hearing loss and is closely connected to deaf history in Britain.

She regularly attended signed services at St Saviour’s Church in Oxford Street, a church with strong links to what is now RAD, and is believed to have used fingerspelling to follow services and communicate. She was also known for supporting deaf artists and the deaf community.

Her story is a reminder that deaf history can be found in unexpected places, including at the heart of British royal history!
