Your teen can lock in on YouTube for 3 hours.
But sit them in front of a Biology textbook?
Five minutes and they're checking their phone.
It's not laziness.
It's not lack of effort.
Their brain is being asked to do the wrong thing.
Reading notes feels productive — but the brain stays passive.
Active recall (pulling the answer out before seeing it) is what makes it stick.
That's the whole reason flashcards work.
Not magic. Just the right kind of hard.

Sometimes the hardest part of revision isn't the subject — it's just starting.
If your child opens the book and immediately needs a lie down, they're not lazy. The next step just feels too big.
Make it smaller: one question, one answer, one small win.

If your child reads the same page over and over and still can't answer questions on it — they're not failing. Their brain is recognising the words, not retrieving the answer.
