Whatever you’re into, read into it

Reading isn't just about novels and textbooks. As part of the National Year of Reading, we’re celebrating all kinds of texts.

Our libraries stock a wide variety - from novels, to poems, to fact books and comics. Pupils are encouraged to come and enjoy the library and feel at home where books (and book-like things!) are part of everyday life.

Whether a child is into epic adventures, funny comics, animal stories or science fiction, reading for pleasure looks different for every child.

Let’s keep encouraging children to explore stories in all their forms.

Many children experience worries or anxiety - and you’re not alone.

NHS Mental Health Support Team are inviting parents and carers to a friendly, practical workshop introducing Lumi Nova, a therapeutic mobile game that helps children aged 7–12 build resilience and
learn to manage their worries.

During the session, we’ll walk you through:
• What Lumi Nova is and why it works
• How it supports children using gentle, evidence based techniques
• How you can be involved as a parent or carer

It’s a relaxed space to learn, ask questions, and feel supported.

Reading together doesn’t just build skills - it builds love for reading.

As part of the National Year of Reading, we’re celebrating the simple but powerful act of sharing a book with a child.

Research shows that children are 40% more likely to enjoy reading if their parents or carers do - and that shared reading time creates connection, imagination and confidence that lasts a lifetime. (BookTrust)

So, we were delighted to see some of our school librarians at the Waterstones World Book Night event in Exeter recently, connecting with other book lovers and bringing back new ideas to share with our school communities. Events like this remind us why reading as a family matters.

Whether it’s a bedtime story, a graphic novel on the sofa, or a shared chapter from a favourite book, the time adults spend reading with children sends a message: “Reading matters here.”

Let’s keep nurturing that message - at home, at school and beyond.

Today, Mr Bishop attended the global premiere of “What is Dyslexia?” at the BFI IMAX in London, hosted by Made By Dyslexia - accompanied by a group of dyslexic thinking pupils from across the Trust.

The film shares a powerful message: dyslexia is not a shortfall, but a different way of thinking, bringing strengths such as creativity, resilience, big-picture thinking and problem-solving.

For our pupils to experience this event first-hand was incredibly inspiring. It reinforced the importance of recognising and celebrating every child’s strengths.
