British Science Festival

A celebration of the people, stories, and ideas at the heart of science. And you don’t need any knowledge of science to enjoy what’s on offer!

The British Science Festival programme offers over 100 free events encompassing science in the broadest sense, promising something for everyone. Spend the whole day, or occupy yourself for just a couple of hours, exploring the city and campus events. All tickets for the British Science Festival are completely free, but spaces are limited so booking is essential for most events.

The programme for the 195th British Science Festival is here and FREE tickets available to book NOW!

This September, Southampton will host five days of free events exploring the ideas shaping our world, in areas like AI and robotics, health, climate change, the future of food and sustainability, and much more.

Why would a robot go to church? What happens at an autopsy? How can we better communicate with dogs? And what will AI’s role be in our future? Expect fascinating new research, debate and performances exploring these questions and more.

As we head to the south coast, this year’s Festival includes a special focus on the ocean, with events, installations and workshops exploring deep-sea biodiversity, and interactions between the seas and our life on land.

With more than 80 events across the city, the Festival brings together researchers, artists and audiences through talks, performances, workshops, comedy, exhibitions and interactive experiences.

Run by us at the British Science Association and held in partnership with the University of Southampton, this year's Festival takes place from 16 to 20 September 2026, with events across the university campus and city venues, including Mayflower Studios, John Hansard Gallery and Turner Sims.

All events are free to attend, with tickets available to book on the Festival website via the link in our bio.

We can't wait to welcome you to Southampton this September.
