I’ve been having some deep thoughts about this the whole weekend.

Everyone is unique. Not everyone is going to live the world through your eyes. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It means we are DIFFERENT.

Social norms have become more of a harmful statement than good in my opinion. It segregates the individuals who can not adhere to the ‘social norm rules’ such as those with social anxiety / autism. Especially if the individual can mask their disability. They can come across as ‘rude’ or ‘selfish’ (statements I have heard A LOT) when in fact inside they may feel guilty, sad and hurt that they can not behave in a way which people expect.

Next time someone doesn’t give you eye contact, or doesn’t look up to smile at you, or doesn’t want to attend a gathering you are holding please take a moment to think WHY and not take it personally - even though yes that can be hard.

Understanding someone else’s behaviour is HARD. But it’s even harder living with it. A little bit of compassion and understand can really help.
