Can you name five things in your home that are powered by button batteries?

Button batteries, in particular big, powerful lithium coin cell batteries, can badly hurt or kill a small child if they swallow one and it gets stuck in their food pipe. They are used in an increasingly wide range of toys, novelty items, gadgets and other everyday objects you’ll find around your home.

Knowing where they are and keeping unsecured batteries out of reach helps keep your children safe. Yet many of us don’t realise just how many are lurking all over our homes.

Scarlet fever is a contagious infection that mostly affects young children.

It is caused by bacteria called Group A Streptococci (GAS). These bacteria also cause other respiratory and skin infections such as strep throat and impetigo.

The first signs of scarlet fever can be flu-like symptoms, including
- a high temperature,
- a sore throat and swollen neck glands (a large lump on the side of your neck),
- a rash appearing 12 to 48 hours later. It looks like small, raised bumps and starts on the chest and tummy, then spreads. The rash makes your skin feel rough, like sandpaper
