Today is our last of our 10 days posting on the Queen ad her remarkable life.
We thought we would finish with a quote she shared in 2016 -

'To be inspirational you don't have to save lives or win medals.
'I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special.
'They are an inspiration to those who know them.'

Tomorrow will be a day to celebrate her wonderful life and her contribution not just to British Society but to the world.

17/09/2022

In 2011 the Queens grandson Prince William married Kate. This was a great national celebration and we didn't wait long for another Royal event.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee—the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne—was celebrated in 2012 and history was made in September 2015 when she overtook Queen Victoria to become Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. Describing the accolade as “not one to which I have ever aspired,” the Queen also made the matter-of-fact point that “a long life can pass by many milestones.”

17/09/2022

The queen was very close to her mother.
On August 4th 2000, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, celebrated her 100th birthday. She was the first member of the royal family to reach this milestone.
She sent her card that the Queen sends to all centenarians, however, this one was handwritten and was signed “Lillibet”, the pet name that Queen Elizabeth had as a child.

In 1994, Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa, and in 1995 Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were invited to Cape Town by the President.
This was the Queens first official visit to post-apartheid South Africa, against security advice, she and her husband visited black townships where they were greeted with tears of joy, by black and white supporters alike.

The trip happened to happily coincide with the rainiest season in South Africa for a decade, and the Queen, along with her many other titles, was renamed Motlalepula, or ‘Rain Queen’.

In 1996, in an official state visit, President Mandela was invited to Buckingham Palace. At a lunch there, the President poured out his admiration ‘for this gracious lady’. In return, the Queen stood, and, without a prepared speech, praised ‘this wonderful man’.

15/09/2022

The Queen had a great passion for horses and would go riding whenever she could.
In 1982 President Ronald Reagan visited the UK and visited the Queen at Windsor Castle . They took a horse ride together around the grounds of the castle and Reagan became the first President to stay overnight at the castle.

In March 1983, during her first trip to the West Coast of the United States, the Queen met with President Ronald Reagan again, this time at his hilltop retreat in Santa Barbara. During her trip, The Queen also visited Los Angeles, and Yosemite National Park, and spent a night at the theatre with Hollywood legend Michael Caine, and First Lady Nancy Reagan.

Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
The Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1977 - marking 25 years on the throne.
She went on to have a Golden Jubilee in 2002, Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and of course this year 70 Years - her Platinum.
These milestones have always been a big celebration and a great way to bring the nation together.
Have you got any Jubilee memories to share?

In 1966 the Queen was very much part of England’s proudest football moment when she presented the World Cup to England Captain, Bobby Moore, who then lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy for all the crowd to see. This must have been an incredible moment!
The Queen kept it fairly quiet which team she supported but there was speculation that she was a fan of North London’s Arsenal FC.!

Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June, 1953 in Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty was the thirty-ninth Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey
At the heart of the Crown Jewels collection are the Coronation Regalia: the sacred objects used during the coronation ceremony. These unique objects represent the powers and responsibilities of the monarch.

The Queen had experience of being a mechanic and truck driver!

When she turned 18, at her own insistence, Princess Elizabeth ( as she was known then) joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), where she trained as a truck driver and mechanic.

The Queen was a big champion of young people. So to celebrate her amazing service to our country we are posting some facts about her life over the next few days to commemorate her reign.
It is widely known the Queen was a dog lover. All her life she had Pembroke Welsh Corgis - these were her favourite breed of dog. Her first corgis arrived in 1936 and were named Dookie and Jane. She bred Corgi's all her life until 2012 when she stated she was stopping as did not want to leave any young dogs behind when she passed away.
We love this cute picture of her and her first dog, Dookie. She owned over 30 dogs in her lifetime.

We were devastated to hear the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. An incredible woman who has given her life to serve her country. What an amazing life she has led and what a legacy she has left behind. We send our condolences to the Royal Family during this sad time.
