🎷 Another fantastic Jazz Bootcamp UK session tonight! 🎷

It was great to welcome three new members to the group this evening. The Bootcamp continues to grow, and it's brilliant to see so many musicians investing in their development and enjoying the journey together.

Tonight we focused on developing rhythmic and melodic ideas, learning how to take simple concepts and turn them into musical phrases that sound natural and creative. We also spent time working on intervallic and chord-based ideas, helping everyone move away from simply reading notes and towards genuinely understanding and creating music.

As always, there was plenty of laughter, lots of learning, and some excellent playing from everyone involved. The atmosphere in the room was outstanding.

We were also excited to have Steve Hall join us with Highscope Media to capture some footage for social media and promotional material. We're looking forward to seeing the finished videos and sharing them with you soon!

What makes Jazz Bootcamp UK different is the structured approach. Every session is designed to break jazz down into manageable, practical steps that musicians of all abilities can understand and apply immediately. 🎺 Feeling spontaneous tomorrow night or on Tuesday evenings? Come join us at Jazz Bootcamp UK! 🎷 Whether you’re a seasoned player or just curious, we’re all about learning jazz in a fun, welcoming space! Our sessions run every Tuesday night at the Emsworth Community Centre, 7–8 p.m. or 8–9 p.m., and you’ll walk away with a smile (and some jazz chops)!

Why join us?:

All Jazz Bootcamp materials, worksheets, backing tracks, and resources are available through the Facebook Student Hub.

The Student Hub isn’t just a place to download files—it’s an extension of the weekly sessions. If you get stuck, have a question, or need clarification on any of the concepts, you’ll have access to support throughout the week, helping you stay on track and continue making progress between sessions.

By keeping the conversation going outside of class, you’ll reinforce what you’ve learned, build confidence more quickly, and accelerate your development as a jazz musician. The more consistently you engage with the material during the week, the faster you’ll see results.

Big night at Jazz Bootcamp UK — great turnout, great focus, and a proper workout for the musical brain. We explored patterns and improvisation concepts designed to build confidence and creativity, one step at a time.

If you’ve been wanting to get into jazz without the overwhelm, this is your sign. Friendly atmosphere, clear structure, and practical ideas you can actually use when you play.

We meet every Tuesday at Emsworth Community Centre, with sessions from 7 to 8 and 8 to 9. Come along and give it a go — just bring your instrument, your ears, and some curiosity.

Sessions are delivered by Mark Upton, Eclipse and Padovani artist, and a dedicated jazz educator passionate about guiding you through your jazz journey.

What a fantastic first night at Jazz Bootcamp UK tonight! 🎶

We had an amazing turnout of 21 musicians through the doors for our very first session — such a brilliant start and a great atmosphere from the very beginning.

Tonight we explored chord types, started looking at modal jazz through Freddie Hubbard’s Little Sunflower, worked on listening and call & response exercises, and most importantly just enjoyed making music together in a relaxed and supportive environment.

One of the best things about tonight was the mix of players in the room — different ages, different instruments, different levels of experience — all coming together with the same goal: to learn, improve, and gain confidence playing jazz.

Jazz Bootcamp UK is all about:

🎵 Building confidence away from the sheet music
🎶 Developing your ear and improvisation skills
🎷 Taking small musical ideas and learning how to use them creatively

I’m very excited to welcome everyone to the very first **Jazz Bootcamp UK** session this evening in Emsworth.

The session will be led by **Mark Upton** — Eclipse Artist and Padovani Artist — and is designed for musicians of all ages who would like to learn and explore jazz in a relaxed, supportive, and enjoyable environment.

Whether you are completely new to jazz or looking to develop your improvisation and musical understanding further, all are welcome.
