Well done to my last group of students.
They completed level 1 & 2, learning over 250 signs, symbols and how to put them into practice for effective communication.
Their feedback was that they enjoyed the course and were keen to continue on their Makaton journey 👍.
If anyone is interested in booking my next Makaton workshops please contact me to secure a place [email protected]

Well done to my students on completing the Makaton Level 1 & 2 workshop.
Next course with places available February 21st & 28th 2020.
Thanks for a lovely review Sandip-
I attended the Makaton course as my daughter has a speech delay and I wished to teach her Makaton as a means of communicating with me. My daughter exhibits some undesirable behaviours, such as hitting, biting, etc. when she becomes frustrated that others around her cannot pick up on her cues and understand exactly what she would like.
The course run by Jackie was absolutely wonderful. We did not only learn the signs, but we also learned about symbols, communication boards and positive behaviour reinforcement as a means of dealing with undesirable behaviours. For me the course was exactly what I needed to get the tools and confidence I needed to begin to teach my daughter Makaton.
I found the course so useful that I have recommended it to my daughters nursery who have struggled to deal with my daughters behaviour in the past. They found the concept of behaviour boards interesting and said they would explore this."
Many thanks again,
Sandip

Tune into ITV tonight at 8pm to watch Margaret Walker receive The Pride of Britain Awards Special Recognition Award for her dedication to and creation of Makaton.
Margaret was working as a speech therapist when she developed Makaton. The idea came about in the early 1970s when Margaret was working in Botleys Park Hospital. Margaret noticed staff at the hospital only communicated with patients using speech, which led to frustration and sometimes violence, as many were unable to express themselves.
Margaret decided to assess all 1,110 residents in a bid to better understand their communication needs. She found that despite having thousands of pages of results, all shared around 350 essential concepts which became known as the Makaton Core Vocabulary.
The first Makaton workshop for 40 people in 1976 proved a success and more quickly followed. To respond to growing interest, Margaret established The Makaton Charity. Makaton has now spread to more than 40 countries around the world. More than a million children and adults in the UK use Makaton symbols and signs, and 100,000 people with a wide range of ailments rely on it to communicate.
Margaret has changed the lives of so many people, and we are so thrilled that she has won the well deserved Special Recognition Award 👏
