What an incredible evening! 💙

Tonight was a huge success, with over 130 people joining us at the Village Hotel in Swansea to hear about our journey both personally and professionally.

We brought a small glimpse of Buds with us, showcasing some of our documentation and the ateliers we create for our children. Together, we explored creative thinking, shared ideas and reflected on the importance of always prioritising the WHY behind what we do for the children, their families and the communities in which our settings sit.

A heartfelt thank you to Meithrin SWW for your continued support and for always flying the flag so proudly for early years. 👏🏻👏🏻

And, of course, thank you to every single person who joined us, listened, contributed and shared in the evening. It was a real privilege to share our journey and a little of what makes the Buds way so special. ✨

We have several exciting term-time opportunities available for qualified Childcare Practitioners across our Beaufort and Blaina settings.

Successful applicants will be allocated to the setting that best supports the needs of our children and existing teams.

✨ Hold a recognised Level 3 childcare qualification

With the expansion of Flying Start, all two-year-olds across Blaenau Gwent can now access 12.5 hours of fully funded childcare each week from the term after their second birthday.

Flying Start is expanding across Blaenau Gwent! 💜

From September 2026, all children aged two on or before 31 August 2026 in Blaenau Gwent will be entitled to 12½ hours of fully funded childcare every week.

Flying Start places will be available across our Buds to Blossoms settings in all our settings…

🎓✨ THEY DID IT… AND WE DID IT WITH A BANG! ✨🎓

Today at Buds to Blossoms, we celebrated some very special little people as they get ready to leave us and take that huge next step.

At Buds, we’ve always believed in stepping beyond the boundaries and doing things a little differently.

Many years ago, we brought the famous Buds to Blossoms Colour Splash Party to graduation. Colour, paint, freedom, laughter and glorious mess! Since then, we’ve loved watching the idea travel, with other settings and schools creating their own versions too.

So naturally, it was time for Buds to step it up again and set the bar. 💥

Our love of creativity goes far beyond paint and colour. Light is a language within our everyday practice, something our children use to explore, investigate, create and wonder.

So this year, we brought it ALL together…

🌈💡 THE BUDS TO BLOSSOMS UV LIGHT GRADUATION PARTY! 💡🌈

UV light. Neon colour. Paint. Music. Creativity. Freedom. Laughter.

And what a blast we had!

Meanwhile, our walls spoke.

Every wall, every space and every corner shared a piece of the children’s journey. Photographs, creations, children’s work, words and memories filled the environment for our families to explore and enjoy.

Because at Buds, our walls don’t simply display work. They tell a story.

They tell the story of friendships made, questions asked, ideas explored, confidence grown and all those little moments that make childhood so incredibly special.

The feeling was electric. ⚡️❤️

There were laughs, there were tears, and there were some incredibly proud parents and practitioners.

A huge thank you to every member of our Buds to Blossoms team who worked so hard to bring this together for our children and families. 🩷🩷🩷

And to our graduates…

Go and show big school exactly who you are. Stay curious, stay creative, keep wondering, exploring and asking questions, and most importantly, never stop being you. 👏🏻

✨ We have some exciting news to share! ✨

We are incredibly proud to announce that Buds to Blossoms Beaufort has officially been approved by the Local Authority and LASIS as an Early Education Provider 🙌🏽

Over the last few months, we have been working closely with both teams to ensure that becoming an approved provider would never mean compromising the values, pedagogy and approach that make Buds to Blossoms what it is. Our ethos has always been at the heart of everything we do, and protecting that was our priority throughout the process.

We are delighted that the Local Authority and LASIS recognised the strength of our provision and our vision for children’s learning. The process has been a really positive one, and we are so pleased to now be able to offer funded Early Education places for nursery aged children, aged 3 and 4, from September 2026.

Our curriculum has always been carefully designed around the needs & interests of the child. Every invitation, every experience and every interaction is purposeful, supporting children’s curiosity, independence, confidence and overall development. Through meaningful play, rich learning environments and nurturing relationships, we already support children to develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions that underpin the Curriculum for Wales.

This approval does not change who we are or how we teach. It simply means that the way we have always believed children learn best can now be accessed through funded Early Education places 👏🏽

This is a significant milestone for Buds to Blossoms Beaufort, and one that reflects the dedication, passion and professionalism of our incredible team. We are so excited for what lies ahead and cannot wait to welcome more families into our community this September.

What began as an enquiry into shells evolved into an investigation of the human eye, as children’s curiosity redirected the learning. This is exactly why our educators do not plan predetermined outcomes. When children are given the freedom to interpret, explore and follow their own lines of enquiry, we cannot know where their thinking will lead.

Using the digital microscope, children closely observed their own eyes, noticing the intricate patterns, variations in colour and the unique characteristics that make every iris different 👁️ 💚

Photographs of their observations became a meaningful provocation, encouraging children to revisit their thinking and represent their ideas through paint, clay and carefully selected loose parts. As they worked, children explored colour mixing, texture, shape, proportion and pattern, making intentional choices about how to recreate the details they had discovered 🎨👀

The children’s representations became a reflection of their own observations, with each creation offering a different interpretation of the same subject. The enquiry highlighted how a single image can hold multiple layers of meaning when children are given time to investigate, question and revisit their ideas 💡

Some evenings remind us why we do what we do 🫶🏽

Last night our Senior Leadership Team had the privilege of attending the Blaenau Gwent Childcare and Play Celebration Event, an evening celebrating the passion, dedication and impact of the childcare and play workforce across our borough.

It was inspiring to spend the evening with so many like minded professionals, celebrating the incredible work happening every day for children and families. Congratulations to everyone who was recognised 👏🏽🥳

One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was hearing the wonderful feedback shared from children, parents, students, staff and members of the local community. Listening to the positive impact that early years professionals have on the lives of others was a powerful reminder of why this profession matters so much 🥹

We are incredibly proud that Buds to Blossoms was recognised for Innovation in Practice at our Beaufort setting, recognising our commitment to continually reflecting, researching and evolving our practice to create meaningful learning experiences that truly meet the needs of every child. Our Cwm setting was recognised for its commitment to Welsh culture and belonging which is a testament to our O Fewn y Cwm project, and as a whole we were recognised for our commitment to continued research 🙌🏽

For us, this recognition is not just about awards. It reflects our commitment to never standing still, continually learning, reflecting and growing so we can provide the very best experiences for children. Being recognised for our inspirational environments, alongside CIW recently sharing our inclusive environments as a Practice Worth Sharing, makes this achievement even more special

What happens when we take a closer look?
🔬🐚

The children explored shells through the microscope, discovering a hidden world of intricate patterns, textures, and tiny details that had previously gone unnoticed.

Inspired by their discoveries, some children experimented with the microscope to explore the unique details of their own eyes 👁️

The children then documented their observations by drawing what they could see, using careful attention to detail to represent the unique patterns revealed through the lens. Through observation, reflection, and representation, they transformed their discoveries into meaningful experiences.

The more the children see, the more they wonder. The more they wonder, the more they learn. 💛
