Working in Early Years means helping to shape developing brains every single day — but just how much impact can those everyday moments have? 👀

Here are 3 fascinating child development facts you might not know…

🧠 1. A child’s brain can form over 1 MILLION neural connections every second.

During the early years, the brain develops at an incredible rate. Conversations, play, movement and new experiences all help create and strengthen neural connections. It’s why responsive, nurturing interactions during these early stages are so important. 💚

🙈 2. Peekaboo is actually brain-building!

It might seem like a simple game, but there’s a lot happening behind those little hands! Peekaboo creates a back-and-forth exchange between adult and child. These responsive “serve and return” interactions help strengthen developing brain connections while supporting communication, attention and social development.

🌱 3. A little stress isn’t always bad for children.

Small, manageable challenges are a normal part of growing up. When children experience them with the reassurance and support of a trusted adult, they get opportunities to practise coping with difficult feelings and situations. Over time, these experiences can help build healthy coping skills and resilience. It’s prolonged or excessive stress without adequate support that can be harmful.
