Saturday morning feel-good!

I was up early this morning volunteering at my local parkrun, and it’s such a lovely way to start the weekend.

There’s something really special about seeing so many people of all ages and abilities coming together, supporting each other and celebrating those little personal achievements. 🥰

It’s also getting me very excited for our own local 10K event, which I’m lucky enough to be involved with as part of the organising committee. We’re busy behind the scenes getting everything ready, and I’m really looking forward to see it all come together!

I love being involved in things that bring our local community together — whether that’s through tutoring, volunteering or getting involved in local events. 🥰

One of those moments that reminds you why teaching matters so much…

On Saturday, I had the absolute privilege of seeing one of my former pupils performing in the West End production of Hamilton!

Years after leaving my classroom, he had gone to the trouble of finding me and reaching out to invite me and Matt to come and see him perform — and he very kindly bought our tickets too.

We were able to meet before the show and have a lovely catch-up, and then I watched him take to the stage in his named role. He was absolutely brilliant — and it was very obvious just how much he is loving this next chapter of his life.

I was bursting with pride. 🥹

One of the things I have always loved most about teaching and tutoring is hearing what former pupils go on to achieve once they leave you. You teach them, encourage them, help them find their confidence and hopefully inspire them along the way — and then you watch them go off and make their own way in the world.

What made Saturday even more special was hearing just how much those years at school had meant to him. He told me that he was grateful for the love and guidance I had shown him, and that the confidence he developed had stayed with him through drama school and into his career.

He wrote to me previously:

“…all the love and guidance you showed towards me helped me grow taller and take that confidence throughout drama schools and into my career…”

I honestly don’t think a teacher could receive a more meaningful compliment from a former pupil. 🥰

It reminded me that we don’t always know the impact we are having while we are teaching. Sometimes the encouragement, belief and kindness that we give a child stays with them for years — perhaps much longer than we ever realise.

And that is one of the things I love most about what I do.

Of course I want my pupils to become confident mathematicians, to understand the maths and to achieve their goals. But I also want them to leave me believing that they can do things they perhaps didn’t think they could.

So to see this lovely former pupil now standing on a West End stage, loving what he does, and to hear that I played a small part in helping him find that confidence…

Well. I was one very proud teacher on Saturday. 🥹

I can’t wait to follow wherever his career takes him next. 😊

I hope everyone is enjoying the start to their summer holidays and lapping up this glorious summer weather we’re all having?

Whilst we may be on our summer break, I am still enjoying the business side of things too ☺️.

One of the things I make sure I do every year is refresh my safeguarding knowledge, and I’m pleased to have now completed my annual safeguarding training for tutors. ☺️

Safeguarding is incredibly important to me. As a tutor, I believe that supporting children is about much more than helping them with their maths — their wellbeing and safety are just as important.

Keeping my training and knowledge up to date means I can continue to provide a safe, supportive and positive environment for every child I work with.

Another year, another safeguarding certificate! 🙌
