Starting is the most intimidating part of change.
You’re met with imposter syndrome
You’re confronted with doubt
Your history passed failed attempts become an excuse
Making it easy to pluck up reasons to delay it, put it off and wait another few months.
Yet each day comes with a heaviness, a dragging feeling of knowing can’t continue for much longer a weight that’s becoming too much to ignore.
Getting dressed is harder.
Opting for outfits that fit in a way that’ll flatter rather than what you actually want to wear, is happening more often than not.
Missing the old, more confident and content versions of you are becoming more frequent.
Perhaps, there’s deep inner pressure to change what you’ve always been (passed down from parents) BUT knowing where to begin results in full body panic.
So we delay.
We procrastinate and we turn our backs to putting an end to these things for good.
Another month.
Another summer.
Another year.
That was me.
Putting an end to binge eating and in turn, depression was significantly harder than welcoming change with open arms.
The undercurrent of it all?
I didn’t know want would lie on the other side of it.
I didn’t want to feel any worse.
I didn’t think things could get better.
That I could dig up old me again, the one that got lost along the way.
Doubting getting dressed and liking what I see, could ever be enjoyable.
But it turns out, the other side is quite lovely.
Change is hard, starting is crippling but the outcomes are life changing.
You don’t have to start now if the time isn’t right.
I’ll be here when summers over and September rolls around.
