🐴 POLEWORK CLINICS ARE COMING BACK 🐴

Winter is on the way (I can’t believe I am typing this) and many of us dread having to work our horses. We are so reliant on the weather and available daylight and when we do ride it can be stressful as our horses are feeling fresh 🫣

Polework is an amazing tool for your training because it can be done on and off your horse. It helps to engage their brains while strengthening their body.... Even in walk! Ideal for when surfaces are a bit hard.

The first clinic will be at Crockstead Equestrian Centre Crockstead Equestrian Centre on Saturday 17 October.

Groups of 4 (book for yourself or bring a friend) £32 pp.
Ridden or groundwork welcome. Groups will be organised to accommodate both.

Spaces are limited. WhatsApp 0771 363 4376 or email me: [email protected] to secure your spot.

Enquiries via DMs are welcome but bookings need to be made via email or WhatsApp message. Thank you.

Wow! I’m struggling a bit to find the words to describe the past week!

This year I’d decided I really wanted go adventuring with Kimero and experience something new that he would enjoy too.

So we took him and Jolie along with their friends Ella & Bunny Katie Ellen Cook to stay at the incredible little_lodge_farm in Thetford Forest for a family holiday 🩷

We explored the most amazing scenery and got to ride ba****ck in the most beautiful river, you could ride for miles through the forest and not get lost, riding through the river was just magical ✨

It was really special to ride with our little people and we also had some early morning ‘just mum’s’ 😆rides before the girls woke up when we picked up some fabulous canters on the most amazing long sandy tracks, I have to admit I was a little nervous at first about speedy canters through a wide open forest in a bitless bridle 😆 but I trusted in all the prep work I’ve done with Kimero on hearing my vocal, seat & leg cues and he was perfect the whole holiday, listening and responding as asked every time 🫶

For me this is what being a guardian of horse is really what it’s all about, that sense of togetherness and feeling of freedom is something I will always cherish.

It was the most incredible week, the horses and ponies seemed to enjoy it as much as us! all our rides were peaceful and calm and just perfect, I’m so grateful to them for the incredible souls they are 🦄🫶

✨ REIKI ✨
I had the pleasure of doing a yard reiki session this week ☺️

I supported the gorgeous Tiggs, Floyd, Izzy & Foz with a reiki session each

Thank you so much to their amazing guardian for supporting them in such a beautiful way and allowing me the honour of treating them. These beautiful photos were taken by my wonderful client too 🥰

Reiki is so useful for supporting horses wellbeing and there’s so many benefits. Reiki can be used to support:

✨ General wellbeing
✨ Stress and anxiety
✨ helping with comfort and relief from pain in conjunction with other treatments
✨ reiki supports healing ❤️‍🩹
✨ helps horses adjust to new surroundings
✨ helps improve connection and understanding between horse & guardian
✨ Strengthens the bond between you

Did you know that reiki isn’t just a modality when horses are stood still?

I use reiki as a tool when I’m teaching in both groundwork and ridden sessions as it helps to settle and calm a horse’s energy…… and their humans too 😉😂

If you want to gift your horse a wellbeing session or you feel that reiki would help them with a current issue that they are struggling with then please DM me to arrange a session.

What’s one thing I wish horsey people wouldn’t believe ?

‘I did the wrong thing and got off when a negative situation happened - now I feel bad’

It’s not the wrong thing AT ALL !

I’m Emma, a BHS accredited Riding Instructor and ethical horsemanship trainer and I recently had a voice note from one of my gorgeous clients beating herself up because she got off, when her young horse found a situation in their environment challenging and reacted in his body accordingly.

Horsey people please, please don’t feel bad about getting off your horse if your horse is worried, anxious, nervous, etc about a situation you are in !

You did NOT let your horse down or yourself and you absolutely do not need to worry about having ‘taught your horse the wrong thing’

Should anyone attempt to tell you otherwise,
here’s what you need to say…..

My horse has communicated to me using their species specific language that a situation in their environment has potential to cause them harm, as a prey animal that has set off a sequence of chemical reactions within their body mainly involving adrenaline which will cause them to need to get to a safer place as quickly as possible, they are physically unable to think rationally it is purely about how to survive

By getting off I keep myself safe and therefore my heart rate drops as does all my other signs in my body my horse is analysing and in turn communicates to my horse they are also safe, from the ground I can start to use the training I have already put in place with my horse to start to communicate with them and get them thinking again which switches on the more rational, thinking part of their brain….the result we are both having a conversation again, calmly and safely and the best bit my horse really starts to trust in my judgement 🫶

Sam & Heidi’s journey

Sam’s situation isn’t unique and some of you may be thinking “that’s us!”.

When we bring a horse into our lives we have a fairytale in our heads of how wonderful it’s going to be and for many of us there are a lot of challenges that come up.

Sometimes we bring the wrong help on board too. Not every combination is a good match and if things go wrong it can cause a massive setback - as in the case of Sam & Heidi.

I have added their story onto the reel itself with a timeline of their progress. It’s so wonderful to watch the progress they’ve made together, Sam has worked so hard to put in the practice between our sessions and I’m over the moon for how far she’s come with keeping consistent and clear communication, Heidi has become calm, settled pony ready for our next step to begin her training as a ridden pony, well done Sam & Heidi 🙌🏻🩷

The moral of the story is that you can get to the happy ending… it may just require a different path, like all the best Disney movies!

If you need support I offer in-person sessions in Sussex or Kent or national sessions online.
