In need of support for your career and live in the Stroud District? Come down to the Careers Café at GL11 Community Hub on Wednesdays from 9.45-2.00. Always a warm welcome and you may be eligible for fully funded coaching support from me.
Struggling to find a job at the moment? You're not alone. Job sites are reporting fewer roles being posted, for a variety of reasons, resulting in much fiercer competition. How can you stand out from the crowd?
In September last year we relaunched our Careers Cafe, working with Stay Nimble, an award-winning career coaching social enterprise. Alongside a drop-in space to search for jobs and work on CVs, we also offer one-to-one sessions with Georgie from Stay Nimble where you can receive personalised advice and support. So far, 18 people have taken part in 114 hours of one-to-one career coaching with Georgie.
Here's what Felix, a Careers Cafe attendee and GL11 volunteer, had to say:
"With a lot of the past job coaches I’ve had, there would be too many tasks, and it would feel really overwhelming. Georgie meets me where I am on that particular day with no judgement.
She’s really good at prompting and brainstorming ideas with me, and is happy to focus on tasks that I think will be meaningful. I lead the sessions and she supports me.
Georgie has really been good at pointing me towards training resources that I might not otherwise have had access to and she’s been able to show me things that I might not have considered before for my future career.
Georgie is like an open door to careers. When I have been through this process before, things have felt tough and really restrictive. She’s a really good voice of comfort and reason, and I look forward to meeting her each week."
The impact of Georgie's coaching is clear: two people have moved into employment, three have started volunteering with us at GL11, and six have taken on new training and development opportunities. This adds up to £30,536 of social value – a measurement of the benefits that the programme has brought to people and communities through increased confidence, skills and new opportunities.
More than this, we've loved seeing our attendees grow in confidence, try new things, and take on new challenges. If you'd like to join us at Careers Cafe, drop in on a Wednesday between 10am and 2pm. To book a one-to-one session with Georgie, please give us a call on 01453 548530 or email [email protected].
