Join us on Tuesday 11th November in the Common Room for our volunteering kickoff event! We’ll have snacks and hopefully some great chats about what volunteering gigs we have on offer— if you’ve ever wanted to try volunteering but don’t know where to begin, or if you’re an old hand at it but are looking to join HB’s mighty volunteer team, WE’LL SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!!! We have a lot of exciting opportunities: peer mentoring at local schools, the Shakespeare Project, litter picks, community events, and more! We would also love to hear your suggestions, so bring ‘em along and let’s be the most volunteeringest college EVER!!!

Join us for a special event with Dr Fiona Hill, Chancellor of Durham University, in conversation with Prof Thom Brooks, Principal of Collingwood College and Professor of Law and Government.

When: 30 October
1pm – Meet & greet with Dr Fiona Hill (open to all students, Vern)
1:30–2:30pm – Conversation with Dr Hill and Prof Brooks (Common Room)

This discussion will explore how universities today navigate growing political and cultural pressures around free speech, intellectual enquiry, and the production of knowledge that can challenge power. Together, Dr Hill and Prof Brooks will reflect on what this environment means for university leadership, engagement with politics and public discourse, and the role of higher education in shaping the future.
