Foundation and Higher small group spaces have become available for an immediate start.

Is your child working at Foundation and looking to achieve a GCSE pass at Grade 4 or 5?

Or are they working at Higher and wanting to improve their knowledge of Grade 7 topics?

If the answer to either of these is Yes then my small group, online courses have limited spaces available.

Starting next week, I have 4 spaces left in my Foundation group and 2 have become available in my Higher group.

If your child has underachieved in their mock exams and need a little extra support then my courses are an ideal fit to improve knowledge and confidence.

Get in touch today to secure your place.

Thank you

With the summer break coming to an end there are always mixed emotions for parents/carers.

Relief that structure and learning is soon to return.

Worry if your child is going into Year 11 and GCSE exams are only a few months away.

With my own child going into Year 11, and knowing that she is a little behind where she should be, I have one piece of advice……

Please don't leave finding support to after the December/January mock exams if you have real concerns over your child's progress.

Little and often can make a real difference.

And as grade boundaries have returned to pre-covid levels, it is more important than ever to not leave revision to the last minute.

If you need any advice or would like to join any of my groups, please get in touch.

Paula

Congratulations to everyone on their GCSE results this year.

Yesterday was a very interesting day. My Foundation tier students all passed at Grade 4 or 5 with some narrowly missing a Grade 5 by a few marks.

But this was not the case for those taking Higher, with some achieving a grade lower than expected. This was due to a combination of the Higher exams being very challenging this year and the grade boundaries returning to pre-covid levels. I had a common message yesterday from parents telling me that their child missed out on the grade they were aiming for by only a few marks.

The inconsistency is very unfair but as parents it makes it very difficult to judge which tier of exam to be entered for if they are hoping to achieve a Grade 5.

Please don't feel pressured into agreeing for your child to sit Higher if they are borderline as this may result in not achieving a pass in GCSE Maths.

I look forward to working with another amazing group of children this year.

And in the meantime...

Enjoy what is left of your summer holiday.

Wow Parents, you are being super organised for this coming year.

My 1 to 1 slots are now full for September 2024 to June 2025.

I have 2 small group courses with limited availability. Each course is 1 hour per week and has a maximum of 8 students per group.

Higher Course (2 spaces left)
This course is perfect for those who are working on the Higher course and achieved a Grade 4 or low 5 from the end of Year 10 mocks. It covers the more challenging grade 5 topics, all of Grade 6 and some Grade 7 in 1 year.

Foundation Course (5 spaces left)
This course supports students who want to work towards a Grade 5. It is ideal for students in Year 11 taking the Foundation paper in 2025, and those in Year 10 hoping to move to Higher in Year 11.

Courses start week beginning 16th September.

Contact Paula to discuss the best course for your child.

What a lovely day to end a school year.

I want to say a big thank you to all the students and parents I have worked with this year.

Many of you sat your exams in the May/June and I look forward to welcoming some of you back in September as you move into the next school year.

Enjoy the summer holidays and I keep my fingers crossed for continued sunshine for us.

GCSE Maths - Summer 2024 14/05/2024

I blinked and it is the 14th May. How did that happen??

Good luck in advance to all of the students sitting their Paper 1 Maths GCSE exam on Thursday.

A few helpful tips:
1) Remember to pack your bag the night before to make sure you have all your Maths equipment in it.

2) The equipment you need is:
Black pen x 2 (incase one runs out or leaks!)
Pencil (sharp but not to breaking point)
Ruler (a long 30cm ruler is best)
Protractor (not an old one where the numbers are faded)
Pair of compasses (that are tight when you try to move the legs of them)
Rubber (new or clean)
Calculator (for these papers only)

3) Draw graphs and pie charts in pencil. DO NOT draw in pen unless you are 100% confident that you are right as you will not be able to fix it.

4) Read each question twice and highlight or underline important parts in the second read through.

5) When trying word problems remember that the order the question is written in is the order the person who made the question wants you to answer it. They are not going to mix up lines to confuse you, instead read a line and do any calculations that make sense or summarise the information from that line.

6) Annotate diagrams with information if it is not already on them OR draw shapes if there are no pictures there. For example, if the question is talking about a rectangle and there is NO rectangle in the picture, draw one and then annotate it.

And after all of this if you want more practice the link below has lots.

Good luck everyone!!

With 8 weeks to the first GCSE Maths exam on Thursday 16th May

Are you worried that
- your child isn't revising yet?
- they don't know what to revise or how to do this effectively?
- they are going over the same topics because they 'like them' and not working on those they don't understand?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then my 5 week (10 lesson) courses can help.

Covering key topics from the Foundation and Higher courses, your son/daughter will be following a structured programme delivered through online lessons, worksheets and more.

If you are worried that your child is in danger of not passing at a Grade 4 or above, or not achieving the grades they need to do A-levels

Then I can help.

Each course is 2 lessons per week at specific days/times
Foundation: Monday and Thursday 7.15pm
Higher (Grades 6/7): Tuesday 5.45pm and Thursday 6.15pm
Higher (Grades 8/9): Monday and Wednesday 5pm.

If your child can commit to 2, 1 hour sessions per week, their confidence, recall and application skills will greatly improve.

And you will have the peace of mind that they are learning and revising topics with support from a Maths educator with 25 years’ experience.

Contact Paula today to discuss your requirements.
Limited spaces available in each group.
