What is Jukiyo?

Jukiyo is a word that was made to describe aspects of Asian pop-culture such as Anime, manga, Web-comics, Gaming, Cosplay, K-pop, Nightcore, Vocaloid and other nerdy fandoms.

The Word ‘Ukiyo’ means “The Floating World”. I find this word suitable as my experience of being a part of many fandoms can feel like being in an entirely different world.

The word is Japanese, hence the added “J”, it also happens to be the founders’ first initial.

Another reason why this word is relevant is because in Japan “Ukiyo-e” is a type of wood-block painting used to create famous pieces such as “The Wave’ by Hokusai.
