🎓✨ A NEW ACADEMIC YEAR IS HERE! ✨🎓

I’m SO excited to be getting back into the swing of things from Monday! 📚💙

It’s going to be a busy one, with lots of lovely new students to meet, new goals to work towards and plenty of bespoke lessons to plan.

After 15 years of teaching English, including my experience as a Head of English and GCSE examiner, I absolutely love this time of year — getting to know each student, identifying exactly what they need and creating lessons that are genuinely tailored to them. ✍️

And there’s lots happening behind the scenes…

🚀 GCSE English Language Excellence Programme launches on Wednesday!

The group is now FULL 🎉 — I’m so excited to meet the students and get started!

There are now just 2 spaces remaining for 1-to-1 tuition:

📅 Mondays at 4:15pm
📅 Wednesdays at 3:00pm

If you’ve been considering 1-to-1 English support for your child, now is a great time to get in touch. If these times don't suit you, you're welcome to join the waiting list.

📩 AND… something new is coming!

I’m very excited to be launching my half-termly newsletter later this month! 💌

It will include things such as:

✨ Examiner tips and advice
✨ GCSE English guidance
✨ Half-term Literature workshops
✨ Upcoming 1-to-1 availability
✨ New group programmes and masterclasses
✨ Helpful resources for parents and students

Not currently having tutoring with me but would like to receive the newsletter?

Just send me your email address and I’ll add you to the mailing list. 💙

Here’s to a brilliant new academic year! 🥂📚

Let’s make it a successful one! ✨

📚 “Which exam board are they doing?” — Why do I always ask this?

If you’ve ever messaged me about GCSE English, you may have noticed that one of my first questions is:

👉 “Which exam board is your child studying?”

But what exactly is an exam board, and why does it matter?

An exam board is the organisation that creates and assesses a particular GCSE qualification. Different exam boards can have different:

📖 Set texts
📝 Exam papers
⏱️ Question structures
🎯 Assessment objectives
💯 Mark schemes
✍️ Expectations for different questions

So although a student might simply say they are studying GCSE English Language, the content and exam technique they need to master can vary depending on their exam board.

For example, the way a student approaches a particular question, the texts they study for Literature and even the structure of their exams can be completely different from another board.

That’s why I never want to simply teach “GCSE English” without knowing exactly what qualification a student is sitting.

As a tutor, my aim is to make every session relevant to the exam your child will actually sit — not spend valuable lesson time teaching them things they won’t need.

💡 So, if you're looking for a GCSE English tutor, have a quick look at your child’s school website, revision guide or exam timetable. It should tell you which exam board they are entered for.

And if you’re not sure, just ask me! 😊

It’s one of the first things I’ll check because the right exam preparation starts with knowing the right exam.

🎓 I offer specialist online GCSE English support, with 15 years’ English teaching experience and experience as a GCSE examiner.

What I wish every GCSE English student knew before they sat their exams… 👀

After 15 years of teaching English, including experience as a Head of English and GCSE examiner, there is one thing I see again and again:

👉 Students often know more than their marks show.

The problem isn't always a lack of knowledge.

Sometimes it’s that they:

• don't answer the question precisely enough
• explain a quotation without analysing it
• write everything they know instead of selecting what is relevant
• don't understand what the examiner is actually rewarding
• spend too long on one question
• or have good ideas but don't express them clearly enough

And this is exactly why simply doing more English questions isn't always the answer.

Students need to understand how to turn what they know into marks.

That's one of the biggest things I work on with my students: developing the skills, confidence and exam awareness to make their knowledge work harder for them.

If your child is heading into Year 10 or Year 11, now is a brilliant time to start addressing those gaps — before exam pressure really kicks in.

💙 I offer personalised 1-to-1 GCSE English support alongside small-group programmes, with teaching tailored to each student's starting point and goals.

If you'd like to know more about how I could support your child, feel free to send me a message.

🎓 GCSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXCELLENCE PROGRAMME – SEPTEMBER 2026

Is your child aiming to feel more confident, write stronger answers and achieve their full potential in GCSE English Language?

My GCSE English Language Excellence Programme is designed to provide structured, expert-led support throughout the academic year.

With 15 years’ experience teaching English, including experience as a Head of English and GCSE examiner, I know what separates an average response from one that reaches the higher grades.

✨ What students can expect:
• Clear, step-by-step guidance for GCSE English Language
• Regular practice with exam-style questions
• Expert feedback to identify exactly how to improve
• Support with structure, analysis and written accuracy
• Strategies to help students approach exams with greater confidence
• A small-group environment where students can learn from each other as well as receive individual feedback

👥 Small group – maximum 6 students

📅 Wednesdays, 5:30–6:30pm
📚 Term time
💻 Live online
💷 £25 per session

The group is particularly suited to students who would benefit from consistent support and accountability throughout Year 10 and 11, rather than waiting until exam season to start revising.

If you’d like to find out whether the programme would be a good fit for your child, send me a message and I’ll be happy to chat through how it works. 💙

🎓✨ Another GCSE Results Day success! ✨🎓

Another lovely message that has absolutely made my day. 🥹💙

This student went into Year 11 having never achieved higher than a Grade 5/6 in English. Our goal was to work towards Grade 7 — and today, they achieved:

⭐ Grade 7 in English Language
⭐ Grade 7 in English Literature

The family were particularly delighted with the Language result, as writing had never been something that came naturally to this student.

But the part of the message that means the most to me was this:

«“I hated hearing him say he was crap at English and you helped him turn that around.”»

That is exactly what I want for my students. Yes, the grades matter, but so does helping students realise that they can do English.

Watching a student go from believing they aren't good at the subject to achieving the grades they worked towards is incredibly rewarding. 💙

A huge congratulations to this student — Grade 7s in both English Language and Literature are something to be incredibly proud of! 👏🎉

Thank you so much to this lovely family for trusting me to support him throughout the year. 🥰

Another very proud tutor today! 💙

🎉 GCSE RESULTS ARE IN! 🎉

And what a lovely message to receive! 🥹💙

«“Hi Izzie! I got my English results and I am so so happy! I managed to get a 6 in Lit and a 7 in Language and I've never got higher than a 5 in Language!
Thank you so much for tutoring me xx”»

From a previous highest grade of 5 in English Language to a 7 in her GCSE! 🎉

And a Grade 6 in Literature too!

This is exactly why I love tutoring. Seeing a student’s confidence grow and then watching all that hard work translate into results is incredibly rewarding. 🥰

A huge well done to this student — you should be so proud of yourself! 💙👏

And thank you for letting me be part of your GCSE journey. It’s been an absolute pleasure! 🥹

GCSE results season has officially begun… and I’m very excited to see what the rest of my students have achieved! 🎓✨

Do you remember your GCSE Results Day? 🎓

The nerves. The excitement. The “What if…?”

Tomorrow, thousands of young people across the country will open that envelope, refresh that screen and find out which doors are opening for them next.

Some will be celebrating. Some will be relieved. And for some, there may be disappointment or a very different path from the one they had planned.

But here's the thing:

One set of results does not define your future.

There are always different routes, different options and different ways forward. ❤️

So, to every student collecting their GCSE results tomorrow:

Take a breath. Be proud of how far you've come. And whatever those grades say, remember that they are part of your story — not the whole story.

🍀 Good luck! I hope you get the results you've worked so hard for.

And if things don't quite go to plan and you’re a parent wondering “What now?” — don't panic. Reach out. There are options.

Wishing every GCSE student the very best for tomorrow. 💙
