𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀.
Outdoor Learning is an important part of life at Sallygate. Whether it’s Forest School, practical challenges, exploring nature, working together or simply having the space to move and think differently, being outside creates opportunities that a classroom sometimes can’t.
For many of our children, learning outdoors can provide movement, space, practical purpose and a different way to experience success.
And there is plenty of learning going on.
Problem-solving when the first idea doesn’t work.
Communication when a challenge needs teamwork.
Resilience when something is difficult.
Confidence when a child discovers they can do something they weren’t sure about.
And occasionally learning that waterproof trousers really were a good idea after all… 🌧️😂
Outdoor Learning isn’t time away from education at Sallygate. It’s another way into it.
Different environment. Same high expectations. Plenty of muddy shoes.

Here at Channels and Choices it's time for another episode of.....🌿💦 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀: 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴! 🐸🔎
Alice and Heather have been out on another fantastic Forest Adventure with the children – this time trying their hand at lake dipping! Armed with nets and plenty of curiosity, our young explorers have been discovering some of the amazing little creatures that call the water home. 🪱🦟🌱
Meanwhile, it seems Elaine and Kerrin – the Channels & Choices and Sallygate teddy bears – had other ideas! 🧸🧸 While everyone else was busy exploring, these two were spotted lounging around in the woods and generally taking life very easy! 😂🌳
Who do you think had the better Forest Adventure – our busy lake dippers or our relaxing bears? 💚

💙 Supporting Porchlight through Careers & Enterprise

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Porchlight into school for a special whole-school assembly, giving our pupils the opportunity to learn more about the important work they do supporting people experiencing homelessness and housing difficulties across Kent.

Our Year 11 pupils are now putting their learning into action through Careers and Enterprise, with a range of fundraising and enterprise activities planned throughout the year to support Porchlight.
Through these activities, pupils will have the opportunity to develop valuable real-world skills, including communication, teamwork, customer service, planning, problem-solving and taking responsibility, while making a positive contribution to a charity supporting people in our local community.

The pupils have already shown fantastic enthusiasm for the project and are getting stuck into planning their ideas. We're really looking forward to seeing what they achieve over the coming months!

🍄 Alice and Heather’s Forest Adventures: Fungi Hunting! 🌲🔎
The recent wet weather has brought the woodland to life, making it the perfect time for a fungi hunt! Alice and Heather have been taking our pupils on exciting Forest Adventures, exploring the outdoors and seeing how many fascinating fungi they can spot. 🍂🍄
Did you know? The part of a fungus we see above ground is often just its fruiting body. Most of the fungus is hidden beneath the soil or inside wood as a network of tiny threads called mycelium!
What a brilliant way to learn about the natural world right on our doorstep. 🌿💚

🎉 Celebrating 5 years of Winnie! 🎉
Today we’re celebrating the lovely Winnie, who has reached an amazing 5 years with Channels & Choices and The Sallygate School! 💛
As a Senior Learning Mentor, Winnie plays an important part in supporting, encouraging and championing our young people every day, helping them to learn, grow and achieve their potential.
Winnie, thank you for everything you’ve brought to Sallygate over the past five years, and for the care and commitment you continue to show our young people.

This week, we’re celebrating the people who make Sallygate feel like Sallygate. Our team. 💙 .. And they do it every day – with patience, consistency, humour and a frankly impressive tolerance for hearing the same joke 47 times. 😂
Belonging doesn’t happen because it’s written in a school vision. It happens because of people.

A brilliant first week back for 𝗛𝗦 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗲!
Reflecting our five school values, HS has earned an amazing 25 Dojo points in his first week back in Spruce – which means he’s also earned his first Sallygate Legend sticker but also the first sticker in the school! 👏
Our new Sallygate Legends sticker album makes recognising positive choices and progress a little more fun.
Throughout the year, children can earn and collect stickers through Dojo points, challenges, our school values and achievements – with Rare, Ultra Rare and Legendary stickers waiting to be discovered.
But there’s an important reason behind it.
For our children, success can look very different. Sometimes the biggest achievement is something that might appear very small to somebody else.
We want those moments to be noticed.
The album gives children something tangible to collect, celebrate and be proud of – while creating something that feels completely Sallygate.
And there may already be some serious sticker trading negotiations taking place… 👀😂

And just like that, we're back. 💙
There's always something special about the first week of a new school year.
New classrooms. New routines. New opportunities. Some familiar faces and some children beginning their Sallygate journey for the very first time.
For some children, walking back through the school gates is easy. For others, it takes real courage.
That's why this week hasn't been about rushing straight into everything. It's been about reconnecting, rebuilding routines, settling back into relationships and making sure every child knows that they belong here.
And there has been plenty to celebrate already.
We've seen children reconnecting with friends, getting back into their learning, enjoying being outside, laughing with staff and beginning to think about what they want to achieve this year.
Most importantly, we've seen our school community come back together.
Here's to another year of learning, laughter, challenge, progress and finding plenty of joy along the way.
