Dante English

Hi! Are you looking for an English tutor in Dorking?

Most of my students come through word of mouth, for which I’m incredibly grateful. But I’ve realised that if you don’t already know one of my families, you probably have no idea who I am — so here I am!

I’m an English teacher with 20+ years’ experience in state and independent schools in the UK and Europe, and I’m also a GCSE English Language examiner. I have an enhanced DBS on the update service, and I have up-to-date safeguarding training - all available upon request.

I offer 1-to-1 face-to-face English tuition for Years 7–11 from my home in central Dorking, within walking distance of Ashcombe School.

I currently have spaces on Tuesdays from 6.45pm, Wednesdays from 5pm or Fridays at 3.45pm or 6.30pm.

I work with students on everything from building confidence and improving written work to getting properly prepared for GCSE English – language and literature!

And yes, there is a dog. Dante is an enthusiastic part of the welcome committee, emotional support team and, most importantly, the loud water-drinking department! (He's actually doing that as I type this post!)

If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, feel free to WhatsApp me on 07423 608576 or email [email protected].

And that's a wrap! My regular English tuition sessions for the 2025-26 academic year are now over! While Dante is taking a well-deserved rest from all the welcoming, treat-chewing and water-drinking, I'll be planning for another busy September as well as tutoring ad hoc sessions throughout the summer. I have availability from September (only 2 'straight-after-school' sessions remain), and if you book now, you'll avoid September's price rise! Please do get in touch for further info to book via WhatsApp 07423 608576

One good thing coming out of this heatwave.... the postponement of year 10 English exams until next week! I thought Portia, Shylock and Scrooge had been put away until next year, but now we have one more week to hone those exam skills!

Good luck to all my year 10 students doing their mocks at Ashcombe this week - just like Portia seasons her justice with mercy, you're seasoned for this!

Emotional week ahead! I'll be saying goodbye to my lovely Year 11 students and their lovely families as they complete their GCSE English Language exam this Friday! Their engagement and progress has been wonderful to see, and I wish them all the success in the world for their future.

They do say that English teachers are either frustrated writers or frustrated actors...

We’re thrilled to announce our stellar cast for the upcoming world premiere of ‘At Your Convenience’.
Written by our very own James Carter, and directed by Andrea Charles, the play follows the journey of a team of cleaners as they fight to keep their public toilets – the fourth emergency service – open. The show runs from July 1st – 4th and tickets for this touching and witty play are on sale now: https://bit.ly/4nOWTuh

With GCSE exam season nearly here, some of my current students will soon be finishing up, which means I’ll have a small number of spaces available from June onwards.
If you’re thinking about extra English support for your child, now is a good time to get in touch and plan ahead for the summer term or next academic year.
I’ll also be increasing my rates for new students from September. Any lessons booked to start this school year (from June) will be at my current rates, so families are very welcome to get organised early.
I was fully booked by January this year, so availability is always limited once the new term gets underway.
Feel free to message me if you’d like to chat about availability or ask any questions. WhatsApp 07423 608576 or email [email protected]
