🎉 Happy Retirement Sue! 🎉

After an incredible career spanning so many years, it’s finally time to hang up the uniform and start the next chapter! ❤️

Sue qualified as a nurse in 1986, going on to work in CCU and in the community before following her real passion for education and developing others. This led her into roles as a Resuscitation Officer and, ultimately, Simulation Educator — a role where she truly thrived.

Over the years, Sue has educated, supported and inspired thousands of people, sharing not only her incredible knowledge and experience, but also her humour, warmth and personality. She has made a lasting impact on so many careers and, most importantly, on the people she has taught and supported along the way.

Her knowledge is second to none, and her personality is quite simply irreplaceable. She will be sorely missed by colleagues, learners and everyone lucky enough to have worked alongside her.

We wish you the very best for your retirement, Sue! 🥂🍾 You’ve certainly earned it!

Now it’s time for travelling around Europe, making memories, relaxing and enjoying everything retirement has to offer. 🌍✈️❤️

🎮 Can gamification transform the simulation experience?

At Montagu Clinical Simulation Centre, we explored just that with The Crystalloid Maze – a novel, gamified simulation-based education experience designed for student doctors. 🩺🧩

Our project looked at whether introducing game-based elements could improve students’ first experience of simulation and encourage longer-term enthusiasm for simulation-based learning.

✨ What did we find?

📈 Enthusiasm for future simulation more than doubled – increasing from 29.9% pre-course to 70.5% post-course.

😌 Students reported reduced nervousness and anxiety around simulation.

🙌 The gamified approach exceeded expectations and helped create a more engaging, interactive and psychologically safe learning environment.

The feedback showed that fun, teamwork, interactive scenarios and a little healthy competition can make a real difference to the learner experience!

A huge well done to Dr Matthew Knight, Dr Susan Chatfield and Dr Alice Tipton for this fantastic work and for continuing to explore innovative ways to enhance simulation-based education. 👏

Bringing Simulation to You 🩺🎬

What happens when we take simulation out of the simulation centre and into the real clinical environment?

Our in-situ simulation sessions allow us to bring realistic scenarios directly into the workplace, creating an opportunity to challenge not only our learners, but also the systems, processes and environment in which they work.

By simulating in the real clinical setting, we can explore:

🔹 How well our systems work under pressure
🔹 Whether equipment and resources are readily accessible
🔹 How teams communicate and work together
🔹 How the environment impacts patient care
🔹 Where potential risks, barriers or opportunities for improvement may exist

Most importantly, in-situ simulation provides a safe space to identify learning and system improvements before they become real-world problems.

Bringing simulation to you allows us to challenge, learn, reflect and improve… together. 💙
