Inspiring writing is ALL about being creative! ‘How can I choose exciting and inspiring images and video clips to get those creative juices flowing?’ That’s the question that I think about when I’m planning my EMPOWER writing lessons.

We loved using this image this week - The Cursed Beach. Not only were we able to come up with wonderful answers to questions like these:

-What do you think caused all these shipwrecks to happen on this beach?
-What questions do you have about the mysteries of the cursed beach?
-If you were the main character in this story, would you approach the shipwreck or stay away from it?
... but the writing composed following these discussions was extraordinary! 🙌

Would your child benefit from some additional opportunities to write creatively in a small and very supportive group? Why not let them trial a no-obligation lesson with us?

With the right inspiration, writing can be really fun! 🌈

How often do pears come in pairs? And would your child recognise the difference between the two?

Understanding homophones - words that sound the same but have different meanings and often different spellings - is key to improving your child’s writing.

In fact, mastering the art of using homophones correctly opens doors to effective communication. My English booster groups teach language skills that will empower the way for clarity and precision for your young writer.

Let’s ace the language game together! 💥

Fractions, fractions, fractions!

Does your child get into a bit of a tangle when fractions are mentioned? 🤔 Would they know the answer to this question?

In my EMPOWER maths booster groups, I will be teaching all things fractions: what they are, what they do, how to compare and order them, how to find their equivalents, and then how to use all of this knowledge when they are hidden in word problems! 😅

The answer to this one? 2/7! But that’s not the answer I most commonly see pupils giving! If you think your child might benefit from conquering fractions once and for all, why not let them join the EMPOWER tribe? We’ll figure it out together. 👊

Move over sweet and salty, it’s time for possession vs contraction! Would your child be able to sort these statements into the right popcorn box to decipher why the apostrophe is making a star appearance?

Swipe left to see the type of question that Year 6 pupils will need to master.

In my EGPS booster group, we’re mastering the art of using an apostrophe! Not only to contract words together but to show both singular and plural possession. Say goodbye to uncertainty and hello to confidently using this small but mighty punctuation mark. 🙌

It’s the return to school which means it’s time for my first Empower Booster groups to launch. 🚀

Check out what I’m going to be covering in my Year 5 and 6 EGPS (English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling) this month. It’s not too late to book a spot for your child - there are still a few spaces available. Why not secure a no-obligation trial lesson to see how they get on?

Research, plan, teach!

I’m a great believer in planning that is backed by evidence and informed by research. Understanding how my pupils learn best and utilising the most relevant planning materials ensures that my EMPOWER booster lessons are not only creative but also effective. These are some of my favourites to support my planning for my upcoming EMPOWER Writing booster group. 💫

Does this sound like the kind of teaching that would benefit your child? EMPOWER booster classes start next week, why not let your child come and join us as we start 2024 together.

What’s the connection between the humble sunflower and Empower Primary Tuition? In essence, everything.

Establishing a profound link between the unassuming sunflower and Empower Primary Tuition is more than a mere coincidence; it’s a conceptual alignment with a purpose. Did you know that the young sunflower actively follows the sun’s trajectory throughout the day? It’s a symbolic dance of radiant adaptation. In the morning, it faces east, greeting the sunrise, then gracefully turns west as the day progresses. This rhythmic pursuit parallels the essence of learning within Empower Primary Tuition—a metaphorical journey of blossoming brilliance.

I like to think of it as learning to radiate brilliance in the beauty of one’s own light—a way of thriving! In Latin, the sunflower is aptly named ‘girasol,’ translating to ‘following the sun.’ These golden blooms serve as poignant symbols of positivity, optimism, and happiness, and a reminder of how important it is to nurture our children’s (and our own!) mental health and wellbeing.

The sunflower metaphor encapsulates the aspiration I have with Empower Primary; to foster an environment where my pupils truly thrive.

If you’re looking for additional support to help your child beyond the classroom, look no further. My Empower and Thrive workshops are meticulously designed to create an optimal environment for your child’s progression. It’s not just about education; it’s about cultivating a mindset that allows your child to shine brightly in their own unique way. 🌻

Would your child be able to find the answer to a question like this?

Let’s break it down together! The initial statement is 6/30 equals a certain percentage. To find that missing number, we need to simplify 6/30 to 1/5. Then, we convert 1/5 to a fraction with a denominator of 100, giving us 20%.

In my Empower maths booster groups, we practise breaking down questions like this into manageable chunks. Think of it like stepping stones to cross a river - one step at a time to get to the other side! 🪨 👣

I find that the more I teach children using visual representations and powerful analogies, the more it sticks!

Subjunctive form becomes much easier to understand when you explain part of the concept using ideas that children can already relate to. We take the prefix 'sub' which is a cue for them to think of a submarine, and place this inside a wishing jar, supporting their understanding of the 'what if?' concept; imaginary things that could happen or be wished for. Now, associate the jar with the key verb phrase ‘If I were'. I often get my Year 5 and 6 pupils to do a basic speed drawing of this image (which they love doing!) to help them remember. Put it all together, and they'll be well on their way to successfully answering a question like the one at the end of this post. 👊

In my EGPS booster groups, we'll be learning to identify and confidently use the subjunctive form. See the final page for one type of question that Year 6 children need to be familiar with.

Whether you’re just exploring tuition options for your child or you’re ready to book a no-obligation first lesson with me, let’s work out the next step together.

If I were you, I’d click the link in my bio to get started. 🤭
