This week at Nature Spaces, we explored still-life painting using interesting shaped vases and flowers. Each participant sketched the different shaped vases and brought the scene to life using a colour palette of their own choosing. The finished canvases looked brilliant, bursting with vibrant shades, expressive details, and wonderfully rounded vase shapes that give every painting its own distinctive character.
Thank you to artists, Kate and Jenny, for leading an absorbing session.

We've been working with students from Juniper on the Spill the Tea project, delivering interactive sessions that combined discussion, creative activities, and links to trusted resources and support. The batik activity enabled students to express their hopes and aspirations. The outcome of the sessions highlighted the importance of strong sexual health awareness.
This valuable initiative was made possible by the generous funding from Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

The 'Wheels of Change' Exhibition has been installed in the Orangery at Derby Arboretum since moving from Cromford Mills. The exhibition works particularly well in this setting, and the space provides an excellent backdrop for the displays.
The work will be on show until early November, viewable through the Orangery windows.
The work was created by the local community led by the Spiral Artists.

We started our Nature Spaces sessions for this term and there was real excitement! We got to create some amazing Alcohol Ink Tiles with Spiral artist, Claire. Those inky swirls were like magic, they had a life of their own! We tried our hand at designs on yupo paper and ceramic tiles, and let's just say there were a LOT of oohs and aahs in the room 😂

I was delighted to be invited by Derbyshire Mind to work at Chatsworth with a wonderful group of participants from across Derbyshire. Inspired by a walk through the estate and its beautiful natural surroundings, we created small well dressings in seed trays. The group embraced the activity enthusiastically and produced some fantastic designs using stoneware clay, peppercorn outlines, and trays filled with petals, leaves, feathers, shells, seeds, and star anise. We were all very proud of the finished pieces. The session was supported by the Chatsworth Learning Team and volunteers, along with Derbyshire Mind staff. It was a calming, mindful activity that helped to boost the group’s wellbeing.🌿💚

Well, it was our last session for the summer at the Family Art Club. What a great journey we've had with all the lovely families and their happy, smiling faces. Our last session involved making painted bunting flags using sticky-back shapes on calico and acrylic paints. The designs were a lovely surprise 🙂. Thank you to all the families who attended each week, to the brilliant Spiral Artists and volunteers - Jenny, Monika, Claire, Maureen, Claudia, and Eleanor! And thank you to the funders for giving us this opportunity to make art in the park - Derby Youth Alliance Community Action Derby , ,
