Long before I became "Dr" Sam Ballington, I was a child who needed adults to look more closely. I experienced abuse during childhood. I know what it is to carry experiences that cannot easily be explained. I know that children do not always have the words, safety or understanding needed to tell adults what is happening.

Behaviour, play, achievement, silence, noise. The words "I'm fine". All this is communication.

The ACFC was built from lived experience, academic knowledge, professional practice and a determination to do better for children and families.

Let's professionalise our practice, challenge the harm, and truly hear the voices of children and young people.

"What might this child be communicating?" - You can learn to answer this question. Start our brand new Professional Diploma in Child and Family Therapeutic Coaching, certified by TQUK and accredited by the ACFC.

Behaviour does not appear from nowhere. It sits within a wider picture that may include development, sensory experiences, attachment, communication, relationships, unmet needs, anxiety, trauma, overwhelm or changes within the family.

And this is exactly what we teach you to look for at The Association of Child and Family Coaches.

By becoming a Practitioner in Child and Family Therapeutic Practice, you can harness your lived experiences, professional observations, and current knowledge, building on them through our comprehensive, safe, and ethical training.

With The ACFC, you will learn the core competencies of a Child and Family Therapeutic Coach and build these into one of five specialist pathways of your choice, including Therapeutic Play, Neurodiversity and Neurodivergence, and Child and Young Person Wellbeing.

We look beyond the moment in front of us. We consider the child, their relationships, their environment and the wider family system.

Child and Family Therapeutic Coaching - specialising in Neurodiversity Family Coaching, Therapeutic Play Coaching, Creative Therapeutic Arts, or ADHD Coaching is not counselling with a different title. It is not psychotherapy delivered without the appropriate qualification. And it is not a downloadable certificate achieved after a £27 course and a quick quiz taken after seeing a Facebook ad that promises you that you will be able to "qualify".

It is a distinct, purposeful form of practice. A Child and Family Therapeutic Coach may use relational, coaching, play-based and creative approaches to support children and families in identifying strengths, understanding experiences, developing skills and moving towards meaningful goals.

At the ACFC, we are passionate about what therapeutic coaching can offer.

We are equally passionate about ensuring that it is delivered safely, ethically and without making claims that extend beyond the practitioner’s role.

Train with the ACFC - become a safe, ethical, and suitably trained practitioner in your specialism, harnessing your own lived experiences to passionately and safely help children and families through their own challenges.
