Autumn's Awesome adventures Our daughter, Autumn, has Spina Bifida. At 27 weeks gestation, we had fetalscopic surgery. She is now 3 years old.

We are based near London and are sharing our journey to help others and to keep family and friends informed.

September is
NICU AWARENESS MONTH

Autumn spent three and a half weeks in the NICU in London in October and November of 2023. We knew she was going to stay in the NICU due to her premiturity and Spina Bifida.

The NICU is full of babies and lots of different noises, lights and beeps. Enough to make anyone anxious. I always wanted to see the numbers on the monitor as well as Autumn, as if the monitor made lots of noise, it made me so anxious and I wanted to know what it meant. We were fortunate we stayed closeby and spent all day everyday and some nights by her side. It was all tough, but the toughest parts were when the consultants couldn't get the meds into her she desperately needed.

She was looked after incredibly well and so were we. We remember it like it was yesterday, the nurses who worked so hard, greeting us like long lost friends. And we will forever be greatful for the love and support she was shown by them all in her first month of life.

On the 26th September, please go to McDonalds and buy one of the selected main meals. This will mean £1 from each meal will be donated to Ronald McDonald Houses.

As you know, we stayed in one for 3 weeks when Autumn was born. Knowing they are there brings a lot of reasurace. They are amazing. A home from home. Please do this, so more people like us get to stay in them and not have the financial worries of staying in hotels while your little one is in hospital.

These videos are almost 3 years apart. 3 YEARS! Where has the time gone. She came into this world in a hurry and she hasn't slowed down since.

Counting to 10 for the first time with us this evening- we knew she could count to 6 but is rarely in the mood to do it. If Autumn isn't in the mood for something, it doesn't happen. We also start speech therapy next week. Since we saw them last, Autumn has come on leaps and bounds with her speech.

We went to the zoo today with friends to see the animals, but truthfully, Autumn had so much more fun in the rain and splashing in the puddles. Thankfully I was very organised and had different coats, shoes, and many changes of clothing.

Tomorrow marks a very special day for our family – *Butt Day*, the anniversary of Autumn's surgery.

At just 27 weeks gestation, Autumn underwent life-changing surgery while still in the womb. Looking back now, it's incredible to see how far she has come.

This video captures some of the many milestones throughout her life so far. It offers a glimpse into her sparkly personality, incredible strength and determination, her zest for life, cheeky nature, and those beautiful smiles that light up every room.

Autumn may have Spina Bifida, but it does not define who she is. She is so much more than a diagnosis. She is brave, resilient, joyful, and endlessly inspiring.

We are forever grateful to the medical teams who helped make this possible and so proud of the amazing little girl Autumn continues to become every single day. 💛

Hyper child this evening after a really busy, but lovely day. Autumn is trying so hard to run. You can hear her at the end saying 'I'm a good runner'. 🥰.
