Great to read in the weekend Yorkshire Post that the Princess of Wales is keen to learn more about the potential for nature-based learning in the earliest years of life, as she launches a new project from the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

Bookings are now being taken for our autumn Learning on the Farm event for home-educated children.

Join us on Thursday, 12th November for a fabulous, engaging apple-themed session which promises to spark the children's curiosity in a fun, imaginative way.

We’ll be taking inspiration from one of my favourite books, The Helpful Hedgehog by Rosie Welsley, as we discover more about these prickly little visitors and how we can help them prepare for winter.

After sharing the story, we’ll explore ways to create welcoming habitats for hedgehogs overwintering on the farm. There’ll also be plenty of autumnal fun as we gather around the campfire to cook toffee apples on sticks, alongside other apple- and hedgehog-themed crafts and activities.

The session runs from 2 pm to 4 pm, but please join us from 1.30 pm to settle in and enjoy the space.

We love bright, crisp autumnal days like this. They're perfect for planning future projects, like making dead hedges for wildlife.

Dead hedges provide hiding places and nesting habitats for all sorts of creatures, as well as food for insects.

The countryside absolutely is one of the best classrooms. It’s a fabulous leveller of ability. It teaches so much more than the lesson of where your food comes from. It teaches teamwork, resilience, respect, determination, self-discovery all alongside a wealth of curriculum learning. 🧡🚜🐑🐖🐄🐓🌾

More farm visits. More muddy boots. More children learning where their food really comes from 👏 🚜

Bring your toddler to Acorn Hollow to enjoy all things autumnal in our Little Acorns Family Sessions.

Enjoy nature-based crafts, outdoor play and exploration themed around a popular book, story or theme with your little one/s and discover nature together through exciting activities like den building, mud kitchen play, digging and crafts.

Each two hour session ends with storytime, hot chocolate and biscuits around the campfire - it really is magical.

The cost is £7.50 per child and £2.50 per adult. They take place monthly and the next session is between 10 am and 12 noon on 12th October.

Teaching friends, we hope you have settled well into the new academic year. Here at Acorn Hollow, we are enjoying the sunshine and the promise of autumn as leaves start to change colour, conkers drop and the hedgerows are abundant. It really is a magical time of the year here on the farm, and the perfect time to enjoy themed activities with us, including Spiders and Webs, The Fire of London, The Stone Age and Super Soils.

**Due to a change in schools' plans, four funded visits (worth up to £390 each) have become available between now and Christmas.**

Each visit to Acorn Hollow is very unique. We work with you to tailor visits to your class or group, collaborating on topics and planning the perfect day for your children to enjoy.

Young Farmers is an incredible organisation for anyone who has even a small interest in the countryside, you don’t need to be a farmer. You do need to be willing to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends though.
I was in YFC and my daughters have been or are still involved. I had a reunion with an YFC exchange student who has remained a good friend for 30+ years!! All the way from Tasmania. The opportunities are endless.

Have you always wished you could benefit from the peace and enjoyment of an Acorn Hollow session yourself? Wait no longer!
There are spaces available on our monthly Campfire Craft Circle, on Thursday, 1st October, for only a £20 investment.
A space for women to join our welcoming circle, share mindful conversation while making something unique from natural materials. This month, we will be roasting our snacks on the campfire.
