We welcome this initiative. Here at Acorn Hollow, we have been educating children about where their food comes from for over four years. 👏

Farmers have been calling for it for years. Now, a new national farming week is set to launch in schools in 2027, teaching children about food, agriculture and where it all comes from.

What to expect from a day at Seedlings holiday club at Acorn Hollow:

🍂Arrive from 9.30am to a warm welcome
🍂Explore and settle in until everyone arrives
🍂Learn the four simple rules that help keep Acorn Hollow a safe and happy place for all
🍂Join in with a group game and a drink and biscuits around the shaded campfire circle (dairy-free options and gluten-free biscuits are available).
🍂Listen to the activities available for the day, then either join one of our guided activities or simply follow your own curiosity and explore at your own pace
🍂Enjoy lunch together around the fire circle (lunch is provided for Department for Education HAF funded places and drinks are freely available to everyone throughout the day)
🍂Meet the animals, discover mini beasts in the wildflower field, enjoy a whole new world of nature and let your imagination run wild

We're happy to share the news that we have added more Department for Education HAF funded places for our Seedlings Holiday Clubs for children over 5 on Thursdays in August.

Join us on the farm at Acorn Hollow for nature-inspired play, fun and forest school skills. Last week, we went on a nature walk, made blackberry juice, ate lots of blackberries, made flower pictures and learned the skills of lopping sticks and tying a square lashing knot to make frames for our pictures.

If you're looking for a new and different way to keep your over 7's occupied during the summer holiday, why not try our new Saplings Nature Art and Woodcraft Skills clubs?

Create fabulous, bespoke nature inspired artwork every Tuesday morning in August and learn woodcraft skills to make useful things every Tuesday afternoon.

You can even make a day of it by bringing a packed lunch to enjoy in our shaded campfire circle between sessions.

Sessions are suitable for ages 7 to 16 and cost £17.50 for a two and a half hour session.

What an exciting day we had yesterday at Acorn Hollow's Seedlings Holiday Club for over 5s.

In Monday's Little Acorns family fun on the farm session, we'll be making a scarecrow and sharing The Scarecrow’s Wedding story.

These sessions are suitable for walkers upwards, with older children very welcome. All children must be accompanied by an adult, making Little Acorns a lovely opportunity to slow down, explore together and make special memories outdoors.

They run from 10 am to 12 noon and cost £7.50 per child and £2.50 per adult.

In today's Seedlings session for over 5s, we hunted for bugs, played vanish, played some team games, made catapults, made a den with a secret doorway, a Time Machine, animals out of clay, swung in a hammock, made snakes and friendship necklaces, found a very furry caterpillar 🐛, drank hot chocolate, fed goats, sheep and pigs, made lots of new friends and made umpteen mud pies, pizzas and tacos.

We also learned how to use loopers and peelers safely, and lots of other new skills.

The caterpillar is a Miller Moth caterpillar, who normally like to live on Birch Trees. It’s been very windy here today, so we with think it must have fallen out of the tree.

What a busy and exciting day. I wonder what tomorrow will bring…
