A little glimpse into some our recent activities 🙂

The children have been learning through play, exploration and everyday experiences, enjoying autumn stories and creative activities, experimenting with water, funnels and droppers, exploring early numbers and counting, harvesting what we’ve grown, and making the most outdoor spaces. We’ve also ventured further afield to the beach, aquarium and woods, giving the children plenty of opportunities to discover, investigate and simply enjoy being together.

I find that so much learning happens naturally when children are given time, interesting experiences and the freedom to explore.

Another week of holiday memories…. The children enjoyed the beach, climbing over rocks, exploring natural caves, discovering tiny crabs and other creatures in the rock pools and observing wildlife in its natural habitat. They met some very cute otters and learnt about the different types and habitats.
These outings develop natural child led risk assessments of their surroundings whilst under supervision.
Back home we continued developing early literacy and numeracy through name recognition, number puzzles and sensory play, while water play with droppers, funnels and other instruments, imaginative play and time in the polytunnel supported communication and teamwork. We also looked at a variety of birds that were in our field and listened to their identifying bird song 🎵

Some recent photos before the busy holidays start 🎉.
Experimenting with water using droppers and funnels, crackling crystals and natural media. Local visits enhanced the children’s curiosity and we progressed learning at home using books and photos. The children use our extensive floor books to look through for memories and ideas ensuring a child led system. We had our first harvest from the Poly tunnel and the children enjoyed eating cucumbers 🥒 and pea 🫛 pods!
The children are making independent use of our cosy emotion corner 🥰

A lot of rich child-led learning in the form of outdoor exploration and creative play. They demonstrated confidence, balance, and coordination as they navigated logs and climbed trees all supporting their physical development and risk assessment skills. Comments from the children as they seen the bright yellow fields: ‘’ Nadia… it’s like the sun has fallen out of the sky’’ “what would happen if the sun fell into the ocean?” “Would it boil?”
I get so many questions 😂
Curiosity was evident as they investigated habitats such as the bug hotels, explored bluebell areas and kept an eye on our tadpoles ….. fostering early scientific thinking and respect for nature. Indoors, learning was extended through creativity and sensory play using loose parts and light.

The children loved the museum visit with the current theme of Living Colour. They admired the paintings and the interactive activities and stories.
Local nature visits developed confidence, coordination and risk awareness through climbing, balancing and investigating the woodland environment.
They enjoyed outdoor painting and mark making, experimenting with colour mixing, texture and pattern. 🎨 🌳 🖼️ 🍃

The children enjoyed enriching days of outdoor learning and exploration, making full use of the natural environment and community experiences. From observing spring daffodils, ground mat making and engaging in imaginative play with Easter-themed resources, to developing physical skills through climbing and balancing the children demonstrated confidence, curiosity and independence. Visits to see animals at the deer centre sparked meaningful conversations about living things….. ( they still insist the Haggis is alive) 😂….while exploration in local woodland areas supported problem solving, risk awareness and sensory development.
