Why has hairdressing worked so well for me as a woman? ✂️

Because it gave me choices.

It allowed me to earn my own money, build a career, become a business owner and still have the flexibility to be a mum.

People sometimes look at hairdressing and think it’s “just doing hair,” but they don’t see everything this industry can give you.

It gives you a skill you can take anywhere in the world. It teaches confidence, communication, creativity, customer service and problem-solving. You learn how to work with people from all walks of life and how to make someone feel better about themselves.

There are so many paths you can take. You could become a stylist, colourist, educator, salon owner, extension specialist, session stylist or build your own brand.

Hairdressing gave me the opportunity to build a successful salon, create a training academy and now help the next generation discover what they are capable of.

So when a young person says they want to become a hairdresser, we shouldn’t make them feel as though they’re choosing “less.”

They could be choosing independence.
They could be choosing flexibility.
They could be choosing creativity.
They could be choosing a career they genuinely love.

That’s why I created Future Hair Artists. I want young people to see that hairdressing isn’t “just hair.”

It could be the start of their whole future. ❤️

How can we make the move from school into the workplace less overwhelming for our young people? ❤️

I shared a video the other day and received some comments saying it sounded as though I was speaking down to the kids. I took it down because that was never my intention, and it’s the complete opposite of what I’m trying to achieve.

The truth is, many young people leave school without fully understanding what will be expected of them in a workplace. That isn’t their fault. If nobody has explained things like initiative, communication, confidence and workplace standards, how are they meant to know?

That’s exactly why I created Future Hair Artists. I want to bridge that gap, prepare them for the real working world and make that transition feel less frightening and overwhelming.

I hope this video explains my heart and my intentions a little better. Everything I do comes from wanting to support, encourage and help young people believe in themselves. ❤️

What a week it has been for Future Hair Artists 🤍

Our very own book is getting printed, our website has been updated, the merchandise is getting made and even more schools are coming on board.

Why? Because they can see what this can do for children.

This is about so much more than learning hair. It’s about building confidence, helping young people communicate, giving them practical skills and allowing them to feel proud of what they can achieve.

I honestly can’t believe how quickly this is growing, but I know this is only the beginning.

They would include their very own mannequin head, brushes, combs, clips, water spray bottle, Future Hair Artist T-shirt, apron and a gift voucher for one of our six-week masterclasses.

I honestly think this would make the most amazing gift. It’s not just another toy that gets used for five minutes and then they’re back on their phone or iPad it’s something that could help them get creative, learn a new skill and build their confidence.
