Just because it's hot outside, doesn't mean open water is warm. 60% of people die within the first minute of immersion.
Fight your instincts to get out, instead float until you get your breath.
Then swim to an exit before your muscles cool, or to something that will help you float whilst calling for help.
Once out, get warm asap to avoid hypothermia.
